Czech Master Resin Curtiss F9C Sparrowhawk

September 10, 2020 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2.7K

The Sparrowhawk was designed as a “trapeze fighter” to be carried by the airships Akron and Macon. Their primary means of recovery was to hook onto the underside of the airship and be hoisted into an internal hanger. When operating over water the conventional wheeled undercarriage could be removed to save weight.

This is the Czech Master Resin 1/72 Scale Curtiss F9C Sparrowhawk, their kit number CMR72-239 released in 2014. CMR also released another boxing of this kit with different markings. The kit provides three marking options, I marked mine as an aircraft carried by the USS Akron (ZRS-4) during 1932-33.

The last picture shows the Sparrowhawk next to an F11-C Goshawk to compare the size.

For anyone interested, there is a short build thread here: https://inchhighguy.wordpress.com/2020/08/07/czech-master-resin-curtiss-f9c-sparrowhawk-build-in-1-72-scale/
