Eduard 1/48 Fokker D.VII E.Udet

January 26, 2021 · in Aviation · · 8 · 1.9K

Another WWI airplane. And again from ,Fokker . Nice kit from thier SE "Du Doch Nicht" package with another two legendary airplanes from WWI (Fokker Dr.I and Albatros D.V). Since there are many discusions about colors on this aircraft, especially uper wing. Despite all of that i decided to follow kit instructions.

  1. Splendid work! Can’t get better than that

  2. Nice work. That’s one of the best D.VII schemes.

  3. Beautiful work and a nice result.

The kit is wrong - the upper wing didn't have the candy cane on lower. This airplane was painted "in the field" and you can't do that without removing the wing, a much more complicated bit of work (even then) than a squadron-level maintenance department would do. (Not a complaint, you said you followed the instructions)

Eduard's paint instructions are often wrong. They say Olive Drab/Neutral Grey for 357thFG airplanes when people who actually painted them have said many times it was RAF Dark Green and Sea Grey Medium. They've done the same with the grey/green camo on the Spitfire IIs, which were all done with "Mixed Grey" rather than Ocean Grey, and that the entire scheme upper and lower was changed on Dark Earth/Dark Green/sky painted airplanes, which simply wasn't the case. They're great on making kits and good accurate models, but when it comes to painting them, check other sources because they are too often going with outdated information they didn't research.

    • You are probably right about that, but since there is only one picture (and that one is suspicious) where you can see the uper wing with those stripes, my logic was, everything is posible. And lazy, as i am, i decided to folo the instruction. Anyway it was quite chalenging to paint stripes on both sides of the wing.

  4. Fantastic and colorful, Predrag.
I love the wooden look on that propellor, very subtle.

  5. A great model, Predrag!
    Congratulations!
