SAS 75th anniversary

July 31, 2021 · in Uncategorized · 9 · 1.9K

Tomorrow, August 1st, it is 75 years ago that Scandinavian Airlines System was created by gathering some of the oldest airlines in existence; DDL, DNL and ABA (SILA).

As a consequence of its age and the items used to run an airline, there should be something to interest almost anyone. From Junkers F-13 to Boeing 747, and a lot of other planes.

If your interests are automotive, there are lots of things to build; Luggage-carts, towtractors, VW busses etc.

Cargo planes?

Special colors?

Weathering effects

To find further inspiration, you may visit the SAS museum online (, or the SAS Flyvehistorisk Forening (

Happy modeling

  1. Wonderful idea of a GB,my good friend!
Looking forward to join the Group with my 1/72 Heller DC-6B!

  2. I got rid off my unbuilt A340 a few years ago, it was simply too big for my apartment. I have flown a lot with those 340s at my previous job, and wanted to build one of the planes. I planned a SAS build, even bought the custom colors (still have them).
Maybe I should take a look on a smaller SAS type, with the previous gray-red-blue scheme.

    • A340 - a real classic today! (I just found some old 1/200 SAS DC9's at a LHS - left them there as it is not really my scale)
The grey cs is one of the better ones in my humble opinion.

  3. Oh yes, and the weathering seen on SAS planes really contradicts the usual “passenger planes are tidy” modeling mantra. Some of them were really dirty, especially winter time.

  4. A great idea, Erik @airbum
You started the topic with some great pictures.
I'm not really into airlines, yet, but will have a look if I can find an interesting one from SAS shortly.

  5. Thanks for the invite, Erik. I have made a suggestion for my build in the GB thread. This will be a first for me, but your pics got me thinking.
