RIP Valery Grygorenko

March 16, 2022 · in News · · 19 · 2K

Brett Green reports:

I am greatly saddened to report that prominent Ukrainian artist Valery Grygorenko was killed in a Russian attack near Kyiv yesterday. Even if you don't recognise the name you will almost certainly know his work, in particular the striking and distinctive box tops of kits. Our thoughts are with Valery's friends and family, and all those in peril in Ukraine today

From TC:

I am happy to report that, as of today, I have heard from my four friends in Kyiv, associated with Dora Wings, Wingsy Kits, Clear Prop and Roden, and all have said they are OK. One said "I cannot tell you what I am doing, since we cannot know who else might read this." Looking at the news, and the fact they're all guys in their 30s, I sadly don't think it takes a lot of imagination to answer that question ourselves.

  1. Absolutely tragic for the ordinary folk of Ukraine.

  2. Really sad...
    SAD, SAD, SAD...
    Unbelievable, yet true...

  3. What more to say, let's hope that peace will come soon.

  4. Current Roden website and social media post.

  5. Really sad... Lets hope for peace soon

  6. I’ve stopped making models of any military objects, planes, tanks, etc, my heart’s just not in it any more.

  7. Very sad news. This war is more and more horrible event.

  8. What sad news! There are so many innocent victims in war; in any war really. We are so far along in the 21st Century, yet in reality, we humans haven't progressed very far since 1945. Perhaps we never will...?

    • That is the most shocking thing. This shouldn't be happening in Europe today.

  9. Close to the heart of our Hobby. Valeriys’ Box art was always very realistic yet elegant looking . It’s even tougher when the younger Than myself become victims of this senseless situation.
As George Williams mentions above, making military models takes on a different tone.

  10. Yet another tragedy in a blizzard of tragedies.
With every loss of these brave, talented people, the world becomes poorer.

    Rest in peace.

  11. Sad News. History is being written in front of our eyes and the Russia we know is, I think, becoming a thing of the past once and for all.

  12. Its all criminal, taking over a democracy and killing civilians, women and children, and the old.

Perhaps a memorial build in honor of Valeriy Grygorenko and his art work. Using Roden kits.

  13. It is tragic, just as every other civilian loss of life in this conflict.

I like the idea of a group build, somewhere in my "remote stash" I have an unbuilt Roden kit, their infamous, "unbuildable" 1:72 scale early He-111.

  14. Sad News indeed. Never thought things would actually progress the way they have - still hard to comprehend today.
Always impressed with Valeriy Grygorenko work on Roden kits, you can put a frame on each and everyone of them.
