1/25 Ertl International Paystar 350 mine truck
Another case of the dangers encountered while wandering the LHS.
I'd originally planned to super detail this model but reference pics were sparse and there was a considerable amount of straightening, filling, and sanding needed to get it to an acceptable level of finish. The dump box was painted Vallejo dark RLM brown, shot with a coat of chipping fluid, and then painted Mission Models yellow so I could do some brush chipping. Rusty spots on the cab were done with a sponge; I got ahead of myself and did not think to do it like I did the box which is what happens when you don't have a concrete plan.
Yellow paint is very difficult (for me) to work with and I ended up with three different shades of the color on the model, so I gave it a healthy couple coats of AK light enamel dust to hide my lousy paint job. The ability to reproduce the look of the inside of a used dump truck box eluded me, never got it quite right so dyed plaster cast in a sheet and broken up with a hammer came to my rescue.
I know the box sez AMT but this is an Ertl molding, a fact proven by the name on the sprue flags.
Your build turned out amazingly, Mark @markh
You mastered the yellow painting superbly.
Weathering of this truck is nice as well and the rocks do make it look like real.
Thank you sir it was touch and go there for awhile
A fantastic result out of a challenging kit, Mark!
Love it!
It's different, that's for sure. Thanks for the nice comments
Very nice looking haul truck Mark. Love the weathering effect and the rock in the box are a great touch
Thanks and thanks also for the input. Figured I'd try to make it look used since the Detroit 16/71's have not been made for years
Looks like the real deal Mark. You really succeeded at making the most of this old ERTL beast. Terrific!
Thank you sir it's good to finally have it finished
Great to see this in Headlines, Mark, I really enjoyed following your WIP.
Ha! Told ya I'd finish it
Thank you and also for the reference pic, some things are common to all dumpers
Thanks to all who followed the build; I might not have completed this without your encouragement. Then I'd have a big ugly shelf queen
Your hauler is an amazing build, Mark (@markh). It must be a real beast in 1/25 scale. Your paint and weathering are very good. Well done.
Thank you for the kind assessment sir
It is rather large; had to get clever to get it in my paint booth.
I love these construction kits, yours is excellent, well done. The yellow looks great and the paint wear is perfect. Nicely done.
Thank you sir
