Italeri 1:9 Vespa Motor-Scooter
I can't honestly remember the last time I built a model which didn't have a military theme, either armour or aviation. This is a very different subject for me, but it's one close to my heart, because it's a replica of the first mode of transportation that my wife had when she first left home.
The kit itself is not bad - I was a little disappointed that what should have been active suspension - springs are included - would just not work, no matter how much I tried.
We discussed the colour for quite a while, trying to get as close as possible to the original, and eventually settled on MRP Light Admiralty Grey.
I added some rust spots, but I was barred from adding and big dents or scrapes, because she said it might make her look like a bad driver.
I let it go, even though I was keen to try out some serious damage.
She's described it as "her most treasured possession", so I'm happy enough with that!
Robert, that paint job is darn near perfect. The patina looks so real. Well done!
Thank you, Gary. Very kind words.
Very nice looking classic.
If you feel like keeping with this theme but get back to OD, why not give this a try

Thanks Stellan - I had no idea that such a vehicle existed ! Definitely one for a conversion project!
Looks amazing, Robert! Painting and weathering are second to none!
Thanks Spiros !
Excellent result on this iconic scooter, Robert @rob-cookson
The painting and weatheringresults is absolutely top notch.
Thanks John - always difficult to know when to say when with the weathering. I just kept adding tiny bits until Jackie was happy with the look.
This looks very realistic, like the average Vespa one saw "back in the day."
That's what I was going for - thanks Tom
An excellent model and a great result.
Thanks Christopher! ๐
Thatโs an excellent finish youโve got on that Vespa, Robert.
Thank you George. I did fancy the idea of beating it up a bit more, but the boss was not convinced ๐
@rob-cookson - great work, very realistic. I imagine your wife is pleased with the result.
Yes she seems to be, so that's a result ! Thanks Brian
Very cool and unusual build. I like the Vespa, and your build, with some nice weathering and wear touches really makes this one look great. It looks like one you would see on any street in Italy.
Thank you Walt ๐
Wow - like it very much.
If the number-plate is correct, you must be rather young. lol! (That's the only detail that doesn't match the old Vespa).
Thanks Hans ! The reason I picked that particular plate was because of the EU emblem it carries. My tiny protest at the stupidity of the decision to leave ๐
