T-28 from Argentine Navy, 1/48

April 7, 2023 · in Aviation · · 28 · 0.6K

Greetings to all forum members.

On this occasion I wanted to show you a kit that I recently finished. It is Roden's T-28 Trojan in 1/48th scale.

It is an adequately detailed kit, although some things could be improved, such as the riveting of the surface of the plane. The fit of the parts, in general, is good.

Be careful with the front piece of the landing gear, which is weak, and could break with any sudden movement. To make matters worse, counterweight must be placed at the front of the aircraft to prevent it from falling backwards.

Another negative element of the kit is the decals. All the ones I tried to use, ended up breaking in several pieces. Luckily I was going to use very few of them, as I decided to make a different version to the ones included in the box.

The kit represents a T-28 of the Argentine Navy, with the colour scheme used in the mid-1970s. For the decals I used those from Calcas del Sur, a local brand, which offers decals for several versions of the Argentine Air Force and the Argentine Navy. They also bring to make a version of the Uruguayan Navy.

The painting is made with Vallejos acrylics.

I hope you like it, and any criticism is welcome.

Greetings to all forum members.

  1. You got a great result despite all the problems!

  2. Nice work there!

Looks like a gem! Nice work sir...
  3. Amazing result, Juan! Thanks for the kit/build info!

  4. Very nicely done, Juan.

  5. Having built two Roden T-28s, I know how difficult that "difficult kit" is. So your perseverance in doing the work to create this gem is even more remarkable. I really like this a lot.

  6. You’ve made a very attractive looking model out of this kit, Juan.

  7. This is excellent work Juan.

  8. This is absolutely pristine!

  9. Fine looking T-28, Juan...well done!

  10. That is a great looking model, with a lovely finish.

  11. Great looking Trojan, Juan!

  12. A well done Trojan in an uncommon scheme. I like it.

  13. Some strong work that is easy on the eyes Juan. A lot of time and effort went into this build and it shows to perfection.

    Two thumbs up.

    Smashed the like button.

  14. Great looking build. Very attractive color scheme.

  15. Lovely work. Beautiful subtlety.

  16. Looking good. Nice work!

  17. That's a great looking build, Juan!

  18. A very sharp and beautifully painted model. I don’t believe I had ever seen an Argentinian Trojan before but I like it!

  19. Love it! I have a project going to build aircraft of S. America, post-WWII, so I'll try to snag some decals from that outfit - I found their FB page!

  20. Hello,
I have to admit I know next to nothing about the Trojan or Argentine Navy, that said I think your model looks great !
I found this build report looking for 1/48 Douglas Gun Pod twin .50cal,
    DGP-1
It seems you armed your aircraft with a pair of them, would you please tell me more about those parts?
    Thanks a lot.

PS: I sent a messenger to you on FB (well I hope that's you...) please check your message requests.

    • Thank you very much for your comment. Regarding the pod with the .50 machine gun, the only information I found is what is on the internet. To build them I used photos and drawings I found in a couple of books about the T-28.

      • OK, thanks for the info, it seems these pods don't exist in 1/48 so I'll also have to scratchbuild mines for an F-5E
If you have dimensions (length and diameter) of the real thing that would be of great help, or maybe the dimensions of yours in 1/48 (I don't have books on the Trojan).
        Thank you for your time.

        • The pods, reduced to 1/48th scale, measure 33 mm long and 9 mm thick. In the bibliography I was able to get for the construction of the T-28 there are several photos and drawings, but no measurements of the actual pod. I arrived at these measurements using the images I was able to obtain.

  21. Thanks for your help Juan, I hope mine will look as nice as yours.
    Cheers !
