Just landed on my porch! Arma 1/48 Hurricane IIc
So, after a wandering trip from Poland through the US Postal System (thanks, Louis DeNoJoy) of 9 days once the package landed in Florida, my order for two of the new Arma 1/48 Hurricane IIc's landed on the front porch this morning.
Initial impression: It more than lives up to the hype! Having been around two Hurricanes that lived out at Planes of Fame 20 years ago, my most solid impression of the airplanes was all the raised rivets. Outside of the nose, no flush riveting anywhere else. And this kit has that. I think this is the finest, most subtle, most delicate surface detail I have ever seen on any kit. Period. Hands down.
Cool fact: I took the Sea Hurricane lower fuselage part from an Airfix Hurricane kit and it was a drop fit. So one of these is going to become the famous-for-being-famous Sea Hurricane IIc "Nicki" of 825 Squadron FAA on HMS Nairana in 1944. Painted right (i.e., NOT overall white, no matter what the Very Famous Modeler said 50 years ago about this airplane).
I'll add pix soon.
Conclusion: If you like the Hurricane, you're going to love this kit. You can sell your Hasegawas and spend the cash on these. From detail of parts on the sprue, there will be a Tropical (you can do it now; it's all there), and they can easily do a IIb and a IV.
The. Best. Hurricane. Ever!
We do live in the Golden Age of modeling, Tom!
TC:Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about this kit. It’s number one on my must have list. I see Arma Hobby is going to release a tropical version. Lucky you got yours.
@eb801 - The tropical version is already there. Like it is with the Airfix kit. The racks and bombs for the fighter-bomber are there too.
Looking forward to your review, Tom, maybe @Martin will delete the You Tube advert that’s taking up valuable space (again) here on the front page.
You and I are conspiring together, George. 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you do with it, Tom! I’ve been watching Tony O’Toole build one on FB and it looks like an outstanding kit.
A nice mark II fits the bill
Eagerly waiting till you start this build, Tom @tcinla
It looks like a great kit.
I concur. I just received mine a few days ago and it is by far the best surface detail I have seen. I hope that Arma is able to make a ton of money on this kit so that they can continue to expand their 48 scale line.
I loved the "new" Airfix kit, but this REALLY sounds GOOD! Looking forward to your build.
