X-22 (Kh-22) "Buria" aka AS-4 „Kitchen" ; A-Model ; 1/72
This article is part of a series:
Today I want to present model of one of the "aircraft carrier killers" - Kh-22 "Burya." The model shows one of the first versions of the missile, developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The design, although extremely old, is still on the armament of the Russian Federation (vide: its use last year as decoys in massive missile attacks). The model itself was supposed to be an apprenticeship for painting in "silver" colors, 😉 . I see that the delicate shading I applied, in the photos, fades completely after using clear varnish on the metallics (lots of decals force the use of varnish, in my opinion) - I guess more practice will be necessary. Good thing I still have some shells of this type in stock 🙂
A few words about the model: typical short-run, currently with worn out molds. 50-60% of the time spent on the model is simply sanding / puttying / etc. Decals are not bad, although the instructions "forget" some of them (e.g. there are decals dedicated to the AT-22 bogie, but where to use them?). Initially I was supposed to glue in one day, but it took three 🙂
Great result on this seemingly challenging kit, Konrad @konrad

Excellent result of one of the most feared weapons of the Cold War.
Those A-model kits fight you. I've built a couple and had similar experiences.
Dan Lee (@dbdlee) - thank you.
