Marvel's X-23
X-23 is Wolverine's daughter... or more accurately a clone using Wolverine's blood as the source. Depends on how hardcore of a Marvel fan you are. I'm a pretty casual fan of many things.
This is a 3D printed statue purchased from studio3dprint.net. I printed it on my Mars 4 Max Resin printer using 8K resin. The finished statue stands about 12" tall.
She was quite simple to paint really. I definitely should have painted the face separately and attached it after. The pose did not help me to be able to do any fine skin work. She still turned out quite well, the fun part was going in after all the base colors and shading were done and adding highlights using hatch and cross hatch. I'm hoping it adds to the comic book feel of the character.

And, if possible, please watch until the end, I really could use the watch time. And, of course, don't forget to Like and Subscribe... I appreciate it!
Very nice, Brian (@brithebuilder). The files you can get to print are almost limitless. Both the printing and the painting are perfect. When I was teaching high school, my students used to keep me fluent in all of the nuances of the Marvel Universe, but now I get lost sometimes in the many new characters. I just got a Saturn 4 for Father's Day, and I am still slowly working up to larger prints.
@gblair - Thanks George, the files available online are quite limitless yes. Not always easy to find high quality though. I typically feel a little like I'm taking the easy way out when I download models. I feel like I should sculpt it myself if I can... but then I think about time, and since that is limited, some downloads are fine. I'm about to start a Frank Frazetta inspired chess set for a client. Have fun printing!
I like to find the stuff I need as a file so that I can adjust the size as needed. I haven't done a lot of figures because my old printer had trouble doing anything large. I think my new Saturn will be a real game-changer. A lot of the files I get are free or inexpensive, but there are many that are very expensive. There are a few sculptors that I like that I think are really worth the price. Your figures are truly an inspiration that pushes me to improve my printing skills. My painting skills will take more time to improve.
@bglair - Everything is a work in progress George. My Mars 2 was pretty tiny as well. The Mars 4 Max is great, but I would like something even bigger. The Death Dealer I sculpted is made in parts for printing and the legs/skirt section will barely fit in the Max.
Looks like good fun, Brian, great colours make her really stand out.
@chinesegeorge - Thanks George. I definitely agree on the color.
Superb job, Brian!
@fiveten - Thanks Spiros!
That's a very fine sculpture, Brian @brithebuilder
Both printing and painting look great.
@johnb - Thanks John!
Nice work and great pose
Steve
@sjcorvi - Thanks Steve, this was definitely a fun project.
Brian,
You really are the Pied Piper of the forum in showing what can be done with down loading a "Model" and then printing it. For those who can afford the technology and the possibilities are endless. The Marvel Universe seems to be the current reality for some of todays youngsters. Histories hero's seem to be fading away left for boomers and the historians to hold the torch and keep things going. However, if your working with young people( old farts too) and you want to demonstrate a new technology and engage and inspire or sell the hobby you go with the flow. The beat goes on. I really appreciate your articles and comments in demonstrating this new technology. We live in interesting times and the hobby is evolving and changing every day. The cloned female Wolverine looks fun and of course will be seen in a movie, will have T-Shirts, merch for the fans and will provide more entertainment for folks.
@stephen-w-towle - Hey Stephen... LOL, I think I like being the Pied Piper of 3D printing. The technology is actually quite inexpensive as far as $ goes and quite expensive as far as time to learn software. Just to clarify though... the X-23 model is downloaded but my previous model, the Death Dealer based on Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer III, is entirely custom sculpted by me... digitally, but still a custom sculpt. My printer, the Mars 4 Max was only $250... the sculpting software I use was over $600, but there is a tool called Blender which is heavily used in the industry and it's completely free. Granted, it can't do what the industry leaders like ZBrush and 3ds Max can do but it's close and it will get there eventually. As a college teacher, I do have to keep up with technology, but I also enjoy it so it's not too hard to get me to play on my computer and learn new stuff.
Stay tuned for the Death Dealer Article... I'm almost done painting it.
Brian,
I know it takes time and energy, any in progress photos with your article? Looking forward to seeing the DD.
@stephen-w-towle - Hmmm, spoilers hey... I think I can show a little without giving too much away.

Brian,
You know how to twist the knife. The painting on the horn looks fantastic.
@stephen-w-towle - Anticipation my friend! And thanks.
This is likely the final form of the sword and sheath hanging from his back.
