1/72 Heller Dewoitine D.520

July 24, 2024 · in Aviation · · 7 · 123

I finished this Dewoitine in scale from in 2023. It's a very old tooled kit, with raised panel lines, thick undercarriage doors, no detail inside the wheel wells and just the seat inside the cockpit. Fortunately the decals worked fine.

It's the first (and almost surely will be the only) WWII French Air Force aircraft in my collection. As almost always my kit was built OOB, except for the addition of the antenna wire, which was made from human hair. I also opened a very small hole in the front of the main gun, located in the center of the propeller hub.

As the colours specified in the instruction sheet were somewhat generic, I searched the Internet for references and colour photographs of the full size airplane. I think that the colours I that I used represent the real camouflage colours of this airplane very well, so I'm satisfied with the final result.

Thanks for watching and for your comments.

  6. I built a D.520 as a kid, and remember hand-mixing my Testors paints to get the right (at least close) colors. Kinda nice that any number of manufactures today have all the colors needed! The model looks great! I have a few of these in the stash, and really need to pop one out...

  7. Thanks to all of you for your encouraging comments
