Royal Australian Air Force Spitfire Mk.VIIIEduard 1/48

July 30, 2024 · in Aviation · · 12 · 206

This was meant to be a straightforward build of Eduard's superb Spitfire series - in this case an interesting multi-toned and half-faded scheme from a Royal Australian Air Force Spitfire Mk.VIII.

However, I had significant issues with the newer pattern Eduard decals in the kit; although for the most part the film lifted off after drying and Micro-Sol/Set, varnish did not settle evenly on the areas where the carrier film had been; leaving a silvering/tonal lightening effect that is rather annoying.

  1. Well done, Justin. Fits in nicely with the flock.

  2. Nice work, Justin. Great collection too!

  3. Great job, Justin (@britflyer). The model really looks the part, and the paint and weathering loo perfect. I just finished a new release version of the Eduard Mk.Vb and had trouble with the decals. MicroSol/Set seemingly had little effect on them, and eventually I ended up using Solvaset. This is the strongest stuff I had, and it still took several applications to get the decals to lay down. Well done on getting this result with the new decals.
