1/32 Douglas A-20G

September 6, 2024 · in Aviation · · 7 · 205

-Zotz decals used. Represents “Sweet Li'l Kitten” serving with 312th Bomb Group 388th Bomb Squadron based in New Guinea.

-This is very, very good kit. Basically built from the box.

-A few very tricky things to work out with regard where different parts go. The position of the ventral gun parts is one, but as it turned out, I closed the hatch and parts aren't visible.

The other thing that really had to be worked out was the engine exhaust positions. Since the back of the engine wasn't going to be seen, I cut about 4 mm off the back end of the exhaust pipes and glued the pieces into the positions I wanted them in.

-The cockpit is very complete and the only additional work I added was Archer instrument dials and placards

  • I used the Zotz Decals as presented on the sheet, but the picture I used to mimic this bird had a white tail band applied and some sort of exhaust and white painted area on the port gun cover

  • the color scheme is OD, neutral gray, medium green, BUT I used 4 different shades of OD to represent weathered OD and the areas on the nose which were tape was applied over panel lines during shipping and removed on delivery (Hence a fresher appearance), used 2 shades of neutral grey, and 2 shades of medium green.

I dry brushed the tires with Polly S mud. This was the only color used that wasn't AK paints

-I used Alclad gloss, then decaled the kit and used Alclad flat coat over a final gloss coat

-oil washes and pastel chalks were the things done to finish up the build

-I was very pleased with the kit itself and with the results overall. Get one folks, but it does take some fit checking and position work.

  1. Excellent build. That 1/32 scale model must be pretty big.

  2. A fine build, Steve @jimmiesteve
Not that easy to build a large aircraft in this scale but you clearly showed how to do it well.

  3. A great-looking Havoc! Well done.
