Revell 1969 Mustang

September 26, 2024 · in Automotive · · 10 · 69

The back story: In 1969 I bought a brand new . I was a senior in high school and had saved my summer job money for years. It was bright yellow with the basic 302 ci engine. Black interior. I took it to college the next year. There were a lot of firsts in that car. First street race. First speeding ticket. First legally bought beer. A big first with my then girlfriend. Great memories. If I could I would find and buy a restored 69 now. I stupidly sold it to my sister in 1973 so I could buy a Honda 750 motorcycle considered by some to be the first super bike. After 2 years I tried to buy it back but by then she had dented it, scratched it and generally trashed it. It smelled like a smokey bar on Saturday night. I passed on it.

I had seen this kit for years and thought someday I would build my old car. The kit is for a Boss 302 Mustang but I wanted to build the basic GT just like mine.

The kit is pretty good. A few fit issues and even now it's hard to get the hood to lie flat. Three coats of yellow then 3 coats of gloss polished with used dryer sheets and the finish is not too bad.

The kit decals are terrible by the way. I don't think I could have built the Boss 302 version anyway. I had not built a car model in 50 years and probably won't again. Not my thing. But this car was special to me and I wanted to commemorate it.

  2. The '69 Mustang was always my favorite year. Looks great!

  3. Great memories to go with the build. The builds that connect personally are always more fun. Side note, my dad had a โ€˜69 he ordered from Ford. After owning it for 6 months he was on risk insurance;)

    Thanks for sharing.

  6. Beautiful Mustang, Mark! I was just a kid when the neighborโ€™s son came home from VN in 1969 and bought one of those. It lasted about a month before he ran into a ditch.

  7. Lovely Mustang! Fast Fords Forever!

  8. Excellent Mustang, Mark!

  9. That's a great looking pony, Mark! ๐Ÿ‘ I really enjoyed hearing about all your special memories associated with your Mustang. I've always thought the '69 Mustangs were among the best-looking Fords ever and will always remember the first one I saw. Our local Ford dealer had a copper-colored Mach 1 with a 390 on his lot and I was a regular gawker there for several days! I also barely missed owning a 351 '69 Mach 1, a decision I've always regretted too! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ford, First On Race Day! ๐Ÿ˜

  10. When I watch car auctions on TV there are always some 69 Mach 1, Boss302 and Boss 429โ€™s being sold. Those cars would be on my list if I ever win the lottery. Thanks for the comments.
