Restoration Project, Avro Vulcan B1a
This article is part of a series:
Well, the danger of moving boxes etc in the man cave, you occasionally come across a project you had tucked away in a "safe place" and then forgotten about. This is the Airfix 1/72 Avro Vulcan B2, converted back to a B1a. I used the David J Parkins Flightpath conversion set. I made this kit nearly 21 years ago and was the first time I attempted engraved panel lines. As you can see, I'm going to have to strip back and re-decal the kit, but isn't that half the fun in this hobby!?

Love to see this one restored, Ian @ianfoulk96
Have seen the 1:1 restored one giving a demonstration in 2009 during the Volkel airshow in the Netherland. An incredible sound and ditto manoeuvrability.

I have to admit to loving the Vulcan. So manoeuvrable that they gave it a fighter style control column! Alas, I don't think we'll see her in the air again, the costs are just too much to get and keep her airworthy...

I always loved this bomber , great resto! It would be cool to do a Bond diorama from Thunderball.

That would be a fun project, where to get some 1/72 sharks?!

I'll never forget the 1977 Abbotsford International Air Show I attended. The visiting Vulcan finished its aerobatic routine with a full-power, wings-vertical 360 within the airport, at an altitude of 1,500 feet. The ground shook! The roar from those engines was incredible! I never saw a more amazing aviation sight.

Tom, she always made a fantastic impression. Living close to Lyneham, we often saw her when she was going to and from the international air tattoo at Fairford (as well as other interesting aircraft!).

Hopefully the project all works out.

Thanks Dan, I've been giving her a good look over this morning and it's not going to be as bad as I thought at first. I'll keep everyone posted though

Great work, Ian (@ianfoulk96). I have the same model in Gray/Green that could probably use an update.

I'll be doing a few! I want to do the early version without the kink in the leading edge, maybe a prototype one as well...
