1:25 International 10663D Scratch Built

The 3D scratch-building farm continues to grow. Just to prove I'm a fan of both red & green tractors, I present the legendary .

Backgroud

Growing up with mainly Deere's, there was no shortage of “Binders” around. Farmer's are as passionate about Deere vs. International Harvester, as car guys are about Ford vs. Chevy. For every John Deere 4020 love affair, there's a similar one with a 1066 that's burns as hot. And rightfully so, the 1066 was a beast. Rated as 106 hp, 6-cylinder = 1066 (IH did their numbering system right by the way) I think most of them pulled around 120 hp at the drawbar. Right in the middle of the 66 Series lineup it was the perfect mix of weight and turbo-driven horsepower that made them so revered.

The Build

Again, I started with photos and Ertl 1/16 models as reference for the 3D modeling. I've stopped keeping track of the hours it takes on the computer to fully model out the subject, but I have gotten faster. Once complete I broke the model into assemblies for printing. As much fun as it would by to build each part, post-processing each part becomes tedious. Also, since resin must be assembled with CA glue, there's no adjusting the parts once they are together. I approach the printing process by visualizing the assembly in my head and grouping the parts to hide the build tree points as much as possible.

Inevitably, there are parts that don't print correctly the first time, so there's some putzing around to get things to come out right. I also did some experimenting with wire additions to the engine for the multiple injector and fuel lines. I was really pleased with how this turned out.

Again, I created the decals with Adobe Illustrator and sent them off to Fusion Scale models for printing and the entire model is finished with Vallejo paints.

Thanks for looking, comment away, and keep building.

  4. Most excellent work Matt !

  5. Fabulous, Matt, it looks like you’ve really mastered this technique. Is there going to be anything for these beasts to pull?

  6. Great job, Matt, on all your modeling, build and finish.
Had to look at this fine build again...that accessory/pto section is superb. I can almost smell the hay...

  7. Another georgous build, well done!

  8. From "manufacture" to build & finish...absolutely...AMAZING.

  9. Beautiful, there is one of those in the field across the road from my house! 🙂 I really do like that International red color, even though I'm a Deere guy. We used to have tug-of-war on the playground between John Deere and International - that's a small-town Iowa school for ya... 🙂

  10. Amazing work. I really am in awe of this project and your result.
