Bf 109G-4/R6 of Regia Aeronautica (Eduard 1/48)
Well, I found another interesting non-standard Bf 109 paint scheme. Eduard included a nice RA option in their G-4 ProfiPACK, so it was a no brainer for me. A great addition to my 109F in Spanish markings.
I followed Eduard's instructions for this scheme, so if it's not historically accurate - so be it. My main focus was the famous mottling pattern, and the last time I did it was years ago. The prototype has repainted patches, so even more mottling and even on the wings.
My second goal was to test the new AMMO ATOM acrylic. I'm always looking for something that works like lacquer, but doesn't smell like lacquer, and can be used for brush and airbrush. And this time I came pretty close. ATOMs are water based acrylics (I don't know what's in the thinner tbh), but the paint behaves really well over thinned (something water based acrylics don't like at all), so I was able to work in thin coats like I usually do and do post shading. Mottling was difficult, so it's partly done with lacquers. I've also made RLM74 and RLM75 darker to match my own idea of those colors. Anyway, if you're looking for a good water-based paint - give ATOM a try, maybe you'll like it.
The kit is well known and this is a complete OOB build. Surprisingly, the decals didn't give me any headaches, and the film was easy to peel off.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful. Great to know about those AMMO paints. Like you, I am always on the lookout for anything that is acrylic. I will definitely check them out if I can find some in Canada
@blackadder57 Thanks George! I think the paints will appear in NA sooner than later, as AMMO is pushing hard with them. Also, my advice is to buy the ATOM thinner or thinner with retarder too and not to use substitutions. I've tried ATOM with a standard AMMO thinner and it works, but ...
Dmitry, Very nice looking 109, Your paint work and light touch of weathering looks very realistic. I also like seeing the not so common schemes.
