On a Mission-1/25 Dodge Monoco Bluesmobile
When your son gives you a 1978 Dodge Monoco police car model for Christmas with the intent on it becoming a Bluesmobile, you know you raised them right. Granted, the actual Bluesmobile from the Blues Brothers movie was a 1974 Monaco, but a boxed model doesn't exist, so the '78 made a believable substitute. The MPC kit is not a great kit by today's standards, but it really didn't matter since the car was being distressed to match the movie car.
Modifications included a 3D scratch-built loudspeaker and some custom decals to mimic the distressed police car marking. The stars on the doors and the “P1” on the back doors were airbrushed with stencils. Finished with Vallejo Model Air, Tamiya powders an pastels.
This one was just a fun build. And I found that building distressed cars is much easier than shinny ones.
Thanks for looking, comment away, and, “Fix the cigarette lighter.”
This...is really cool
I love this so much! “I don’t believe it, it’s that s…box Dodge!”
@tobsnelson so many great lines in that movie it’s hard not to laugh when I hear them. Thanks for the kind words.
Indeed, cool as cool can be.
Just rewatched the Blues Brothers some nights ago so the scene where they stroll everywhere (literally) with that car advertising their gig is just iconic. Coincidences… great work with the loudspeaker btw. Thanks for sharing it!
So cool, Matt, you’re certainly bringing him up right.
Way cool, Matt. What’s not to like? I’ve been told by a couple of people that I attended a blues Brothers concert back in the day in Berkeley.
Great work on a great subject. So immediately recognizable it’s hard to believe this is the first time I’ve ever seen one built.
We're on a mission from god.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
@dbdlee “Hit it!”
Absolutely coll, Matt!
Well done!
Love this build, Matt @coondog
Brings back memories to this wonderful movie.
Although Jake didn't like it, I do!
Does it also have cop engine of 440 cin, cop tyres, cop suspension, cop shocks? 😀
This makes me watch the movie again.
CLASSIC! 😎😎
@coondog - Absolutely Fantastic! It looks amazing Matt. Your son is very cool. One of my favorite movies of all time. Nice work on the custom loudspeaker as well. Fits perfectly.
This is so AWESOME! That is one of my favourite all time movies, and you have done an EXCELLENT job of building that car. Obviously, you are on a mission from god!
