WIP: Tamiya Panzer 1b

December 2, 2024 · in Armor · · 15 · 133

I picked up the Tamiya 1b a week ago at a show. In just a few sessions it was built and painted to this point. It will be added to a small base, so some extra weathering will be done to make it fit the base.

  1. Wow, Jay, you just bought that a week ago and now it looks like this?!? 🤩 Great looking little tank and built in mere days! Kudos to you, brother @jaybiga, from the world's slowest modeler! 👏

    • Haha thanks Gary!
Well, the model is what you'd expect from a modern Tamiya kit; ridiculously good fit and ease of assembly. Plus it's a tiny tank, so building it wasn't a lot of work. In fact, the build was done in half a day. Painting was more work, but even then it went pretty quick, because it's tiny, and has a simple design. So not many details that need extra painting, or washes, et cetera.

  2. Very nice weathering on this model, it looks great .

  3. Nice work. I dabble in small tanks from time to time and have been thinking of getting either this one or the Academy kit.

    • Thanks John!
I haven't built the Academy kit, but I hear good things about it. From what I can see the Tamiya kit is a little easier to build, but the Academy kit includes a few details that the Tamiya doesn't have, but should have, like the smoke bomb rack.

  4. Excellent result, jay!

  5. A very nice Panzer, Jay @jaybiga
Excellent achievement in just a week time.

  6. Great looking model, i like the realistic weathering.

  7. What? Over on Missing-Lynx the kit was billed as an abomination against all things armor..LOL Looks great, nicely done! I think Tamiya kits really hit the sweet spot with enough detail while keeping the parts count donw to a rational number.

    • Hi Rob,

Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it.

In all fairness I appreciate the depth to which some of the criticisms on ML go. It lets me know what isn't correct or missing on a kit and lets me decide for myself if I find it acceptable and can live with it, fix myself, fix with aftermarket, or ignore the kit. I would have liked to have the smoke bomb rack, but I can live without it. The "castle nuts" that should have been on some plates are not an issue to me, because they are tiny and I would have to put on my reading glasses to be able to see up close enough to tell the difference.

Besides, it's always fun to shout bloody murder. 😉

  8. Looks good, Jay. Nice job
