Before Linderg there was the R-34
A little piece of history that might not be well known. The British airship R-34 made the first double crossing of the Atlantic in 1919,Leaving from Scotland and landing at Mineola Long Island, N.Y. and then returning.The display is at the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Long Island N.Y.
Wow! That's a piece of history that has been eclipsed by events. Less than a century ago this was cutting edge and record setting. What an adventure it must have been. Thanks for sharing this bit of fascinating history, Robert.

Built by Wm. Beardmore Co. near Glasgow. 1917.

Hmm, right after Alcock and Brown crossing from Newfoundland to Ireland. But hey, they did it from the other side and back.
Been to East fortune in Scotland. Remember it as a small but nice museum. There was even a Vulcan bomber there.
