New kit news: Airfix to release a de Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth in 1/48 scale
Besides the previously announced 1/48 Spitfire Mk. XIV, Airfix will soon be adding another quarter-scale kit to its range. To my knowledge, this handsome and immensely popular golden-era aircraft was only previously kitted in this scale by Aurora, and that was back in 1958! Although the Aurora kit was later reboxed by Merit and Smer, there will be no comparison to the new Airfix offering.
Airfix's association with the Tiger Moth also dates back to 1957, when the first 1/72 scale kit was introduced to the range in the original bagged packaging. This classic kit soldiered on in the Airfix range until 2014 when it was replaced by a completely new 1/72 scale tooling. The new 1/48 kit seems to be based on the same research and CAD work as its smaller sibling.
The new kit is due in May 2019.

I am happy to disagree, it's as worthy producing a kit as, for example, the Stearman. Apparently the 1/72 Tiger Moth proved to be selling well... I believe that Airfix is cleverly using their smaller 1/72 releases as market test before deciding if to produce the more expensive 1/48 version. They did this with the Defiant, Blenheim, now the Tiger Moth. We might be seeing the same pattern with the forthcoming Buccaneer.

I will definitely buy one! I have the 1:72 version and it's soooo small! I like seeing that Airfix is continue to investing into new tools. Just keep up!
The one/only thing I like about it is that if you are making a series of aircraft that your favourite Commonwealth pilot flew, this fills in an important gap
Wow ! I seem to have put the cat among the pigeons ,to me this is not one I would normally buy but if it means we will get a new Buccaneer in 1/48 then I will buy 10 of them and if we get a Hampden in 1/48...

I enjoyed building (and rigging) the 1/72 scale offering, BUT I had to purchase a extra kit to replace (and or repair) parts that easily broke due to the brittleness of the plastic. My Swordfish example was similarly plagued. Hopefully this problem has been corrected. Both builds turned out smashing in the end.
I got to fly a Tigermoth twice at the Watsonville Antique Fly-Ins in the 70s. What a fun airplane! I look forward to getting a kit.
