On My Bench

April 7, 2019 · in Photo Collections · · 10 · 1.7K

A collection of photos of my slowly shrinking workbench space.

A 1:48 Grumman F-14A Tomcat, kit by Academy, aftermarket decals.

A 1:48 Grumman F8F Tigercat WIP, kit by AMT/ERTL.

A few various 1:24 & 1:25 car kits.

A trio of 1:72 scale Midway Warbirds, destined for a 2nd Diorama.

My first completed 1:72 scale Diorama, featuring a Mk.V Spitfire, a Mk.II Hurricane, a Bf 109 being chased by a P-51 D Mustang, as well as a Sherman & Willy’s Jeep.

2 Diorama photos included to show props turning & at rest.

(Please disregard the automotive black window hanger)

Lastly, my scratchbuilt attempt at a 1:48 scale Canadian Coast Guard Vessel. Plans all drawn up on AutoCAD. Model is a balsawood structure skinned in fiberglass. It is 4-channel radio-controlled. It features a Pod or Z-Drive propulsion system, as well as an "ice-breaker” forward hull design. I also included a functional R/C co-axial helicopter too. This model also features an LED lit cabin and navigation lights, along with a rotating radar dish/panel atop the wheelhouse. Max speed estimate at about 10-15 km/hour (6-9 mph).

  2. I like your driving, I like your driving... Great collection.

  3. I was wondering who’d be the first to pick up on that one, Marc.

    Nice eclectic collection.

  4. I like the CCG boat. I am a retired US Coast Guard Chief Gunners Mate. I had the pleasure of working with the CCG in the North Atlantic in the late 80’s. Fine group of folks. Very professional and knew their business. On a rescue, that is the ultimate compliment. ?

    • Thank you, I truly enjoyed building this model. Was a model of many firsts, the drive type, the hull design, the art of fiberglassing, all new to me.
Also learned that every CCG ship is named after an important Canadian geographic feature or prominent citizen.
      Did you notice its namesake?

      • I did. I always liked hockey but I am not the normal CPO as I have never drank coffee (yes, I got a lot of crud in the CPO mess ? ☕️)

        • Tim Horton? Great coffee and donuts
