Imperial Defender – Nichimo Ki45Kai Toryu “Nick”

December 3, 2012 · in Aviation · · 3 · 1.2K

This is the older Nichimo kit, built largely OOB with Aeromaster decals (Imperial Defenders)
I chose the allover Army green machine over the more conventional Grey and green blotch as it gives the aircraft a very different look.
The Homeland defense white bands are painted on and the Hinomaru are from a Aeromaster sheet and look a little 'redder' than they are to the eye. They are more of a red-brown colour which I think is a good match. I think the white ground may have brightened them for the camera.

The Nichimo kit is really very nice for it's age, but I have the recent in the stash, and it is beautiful... Not to mention the lovely refueling truck and crew that came with it.

  1. Very nice Toryu, Brett. I commend your choice of color for the Army Dark Green, it appears to have just the right hue. Having built this kit before, I can certainly echo your sentiments on the Hasegawa- I've only sniffed at the sprues so far, but it does appear to be very crisply molded.

  2. Well done, Brett. I have the Nichimo Nick with all of Mike West's dress up sets so I can't justify buy the Hasegawa kit, ( like that's a reason..lol). I have a real soft spot for Nichimo and Otaki, they build up nice. One of these days mine Ki45 may bubble up to top of the build pile.
