1/350 Mikasa
The 1/350 Hasegawa Mikasa has been sitting around in my stash for a while. I had gotten the photo etch upgrade and wooden deck. Since I was on spring break and the speech and debate season ended I decided to finally build it. The lifeboats didn't look to good do they didn't go on. Since the upgrade set also came with rigging, I decided to give it a go. The upgrade set also included the walkway, railings, and metal gun barrels.
Looking Good! I would like to build an older warship that's similar it was a great time of Development, once again nice job.
Maybe the lifeboats would look OK with some canvas covers on them? Just a thought, but it looks fine without them too. Someone here had the idea of using the foil lining from the insides of cigarette packs for canvas since it's embossed like little canvas and with a coat of paint looks pretty convincing although that was in 1/35 scale so maybe two coats of paint. Again just a thought, it's a beautiful piece of work without them. The wooden deck looks amazing! Liked of course.

The real Mikasa sits in a drydock in Yokosuka, in concrete up to the waterline. You go inside, and in the gun deck there are a whole series of models of IJN ships. I must admit it felt a little strange, among all those Japanese (back in the day when many of them from late 30s on up had probably served in the Imperial forces), wearing the uniform of the navy that beat that navy, thinking to myself as I looked at the models, "sunk at Midway," "sunk in Ironbottom Sound," "Sunk at Leyte Gulf," etc., etc.
