Painting wood panels on the Zoukei-Mura 1/32 Ho-229
This turned out to be a lot more complicated than I originally thought. The final model is going to be a weather-worn example with lots of faded paint and rust. I performed some tests and came up with a scheme. The panels that weren't painted rust (all the plywood) were painted with varying shades of Mr. Hobby Sail Color. I then painted streaks simulating woodgrain suing Ochre oil paint and very small amounts of spirit. Panles were masked off so that the grain could be applied without interfering with adjacent panels. The parts you see here have taken about 3 weeks to paint as I have to let the oils throroughly dry before painting other panels. This will all be covered with a bluis dark gray followed by sanding and washing to expose the wood below. The underside of the wings are not done yet so there's another week to go before those are finished.
Very, very nice, other George
Ditto from the third George, George (@georgelj). Your wood and rust look very convincing.
This is amazing, George!
Superb wooden effect, George @georgelj
Excellent achievement.
That's a really nice effect - both realistic and believable.
Mighty fine, George.
That is some beautiful artwork that you've applied to that canvas. Excellent work George, as always.
Hey, George, as you American Georges might say, that wood effect is awesome. Can’t help thinking that these posts belong to a WIP in the groups section though.
OUTSTANDING!
Technique on the wood grain is fantastic and the work on the metal is stellar! You are working on a contest killer right there!
Fabulous work! Extra commendations for your patience. 🙃
Thank you, gentlemen. I appreciate the kind words and am glad you like the Ho!
Now, that's really something else George @georgelj! Wow, what fantastic realism! 👏
