1953 Ford Pick-up

August 9, 2023 · in Automotive · 12 · 290

This is a completely new thing for me and was heaps of fun. My good friend (and band mate) Shaun, restored his 1953 Ford Pick-up, in a restoration that took several years. He found an old rusted F250 in the U.S. and got it sent over here.

I wanted to build this and give to him for fun. He was stoked to receive it. There are things that aren't quite correct, but the overall finish is pretty close. I've included one pic of his restoration. The kit is an F100. There are no 250s that I could find, so did my best with what I had.

To drive in his was amazing. First time I've driven a model I've built.

I think I could definitely do another kit like this someday. Nice to try something different. 🙂

  1. This is amazing, Paul, which kit did you use?

  2. Superb result, Paul!

  3. Nice build, it really captures the lines and looks of those trucks. I briefly worked for a company that specialized in parts and repairs for those trucks. Almost lost the tip of my finger trying to set the hood hinge spring.

  4. Excellent! Reminds me of an automotive build (my one and only) I did for a friend a few years ago. Something really different for an airplane guy like me!

  5. Crazy rock'n'rollers - restoring an old F-250! (thank goodness for crazy rock'n'rollers who would do this).

    Nice work Paul.

  6. Looks excellent, Paul @paulwoodyvanacker
    Engine nicely detailed.

  7. Nice looking build.

  8. Extremely cool. The plug wires look terrific.

  9. Very cool !

I had a good friend in high school who owned a real one of these. Not being fast enough, we took the Flat head Ford V-8 out and installed a Chevy 396 big block V-8 into it with a Muncie "Rock Crusher" 4 speed manual transmission. Blasphemy the Ford fans say... but it would fry the rear tires all day long after that... and get you in trouble.

These old Ford trucks are SO cool.

as is your model.. AND your friends real truck...

    Well done !
