Airfix Spitfire Vc
Greetings my fellow Imodelers. Haven‘t posted in a while, but here is my Spitfire Vc from Airfix. Tim Tozer made a spectacular build of this kit in flight last year, which was very inspiring: https://imodeler.com/2023/05/spitfire-mk-vc-airfix-1-72/
Initially, i wanted to do the same thing as i think the spitfire does look a bit better that way with the large Volkes filter. However i failed to produce a stand and here it is with its wheels out.
Painted with AK interactive and Ammo mig acrylics, panel line wash by Ammo Mig. A great kit, the canopy is a bit thick perhaps. There‘s a new edition of this kit available with a clipped wing Vc from the european theatre, maybe there i will be able to come up with a stand!
Nice work on this, Felix. I thought it was 1/48 at first. Barracuda Studios makes real high quality vac formed canopy sliding sections for that kit by the way.
Dear John @j-healy, thanks a lot and i will look into those canopies. Heard they might turn yellowish?
Excellent job, Felix! Like John, I thought it was 1/48 too!
Jasou Spiros @fiveten, thank you very much!
Fantastic! I build two Vc Spits in various paiting, and I enjoy this kit very much!
Hey captain @lis! Thank you very much, just looked up your build. It looks great!
I agree, it is a looker. Nice work! For a stand, if you have access to some wood working tools, a simple stand can be made similar to the one in this Hawker Hunter photo. Easy to make and you use a piece of thicker wire to reinforce the attachment point.
Wow Carl @clipper, what a Hunter! Gorgeous! Afraid i am too clumsy for this. How did you fasten the wire inside the plane?
Believe me Felix (@fxrob), if you can build that model, you can make this stand. It really is pretty simple. As for mounting, the model is fairly light weight, so the wire (which is actually one of those shelf pins from a cabinet shelf) is simply epoxied into a small hole in the stand and in the model. I use 30 minute epoxy for extra strength, the 5 minute epoxy is usually barely adequate. The epoxy is also applied to tip of the stand (but not much). If the model were heavier, I would have embedded some milliput epoxy putty inside the fuselage where I planned on putting the pin. This would give additional support.
Dear Carl @clipper, thank you for the instructions! Now you got me pondering this stand thing again! And i want a Hunter like that:-)
Nice looking Spit!
Thanks a lot, Dan @dbdlee!
@fxrob
No doubt the Volkes gives the Spit a more sturdy and mean look Felix, good choice of markings btw.
I too thought it was 48 scale when I saw the headline pic
Dear Pedro @holzhamer, the filter definitely looks mean…it also hurts the appealing shape of the Spitfire, unfortunately.
This is really nice - I particularly like you got the "Aboukir scheme" so right.
Dear Tom @tcinla, thanks a lot!
Excellent work on this Spitfire, Felix @fxrob
Your painting and weathering results on this tiny scale is amazing.
I agree that at first you have the idea to be looking at a 1/48 scale build.
Thank you John @johnb, i think the iPhone camera contributes to that impression.
Back in the 1950s an Airfix 1/72 Spitfire was my first ever plastic kit, no where as good as this one though, Felix.
Thanks a lot, George @chinesegeorge. I hope you had as much fun back then as i did with this little kit!
Another lovely Spit - it has been a weekend of Spits I guess! I'm a fan of the desert schemes, and yours looks fantastic - well done!
Thank you, Greg @gkittinger! I love the desert scheme too. Love the mediterranean blue!
A lovely build, Felix. @fxrob
Thank you John @jdtruby! It’s a great kit!
Felix this is really eye candy. Such a nice finish! Soft and beautiful.
Thank you, Graeme @graemestreet! It’s a great little kit with two interesting schemes, that certainly helped!
