Spitfire IX, Royal Egyptian Air Force, Kovozavody Prostejov (KPM) 1/72
Does the world need another Spitfire Mk IX kit, especially short run, when there are so many mainstream kits out there?
Probably wouldn't have purchased the kit, but my buddy won it at a model show raffle, and it's not his scale.
This boxing contains three complete copies of the kit. The plentiful decals are for ten Czech air force planes and six RAF planes flown by Czech pilots. There is a full set of stencils (which I didn't use for the Egyptian plane).
I've included shots of the sprues, which show how much detail is packed in at this scale.
As my first attempt at a short-run kit, it was relatively painless. I wish they had made the full wing the default. Instead, you have to attach the full wing tips to the clipped wing after trimming it. I drilled holes and used bits of paper clip to create locating pins
The only other complaint might be that it was hard to get the landing gear angles right.
Out of box except:
Eduard seatbelts
Clear gunsight panel
Canopy parts from spares box
Techmod Decals ( first decal I put on [ID stripes] split, rescued the rest of the sheet with Testors decal spray.)
Italeri paints for camouflage
weathered with chalk pastels and a bit of silver coloured pencil and silver ink pen.
Happy modeling everyone
Well done, Aldo. You really got the most out of this one.
Thanks John. Not a bad kit, all in all.
Beautifully done, Aldo @aldog
The camouflage scheme looks really nice on this Egyption Spitfire.
Thanks John. Been wanting to do an Egyptian Spit for a long time.
Excellent result on this challenging kit, Aldo!
Well done!
Thanks Spiros. Less intimidated by some of the other short run kits in the stash.
Great looking Spit Aldo. She looks seductive in the Egyptian colour scheme. Excellent result on a first go limited run kit. đź‘Ť
Thanks Guy. Seductive is a great word for a Spitfire.
Nice looking Spit, and love the scheme and markings. I see what you mean about the wing tips - I think if I built the kit I'd probably do a clipped-wing version and save the decals for a different kit for that version!
Thanks Greg. The TechMod decals include markings for some Israeli Spitfires with clipped wings. I still have two full planes in the KPM three pack. Doing one with Stars of David might make an interesting pairing with this one.
Well done!
Thank you much, Chas.
Nicely done Aldo.
Thanks Alan
Triple whammy on that KP kit, Aldo (@aldog)!
I have a couple of other KP kits and they do look good.
Great choice on the finish, doing an IDF spitfire would also be a great companion choice.
Excellent looking Spitfire.
Thanks George. Couple more KP kits in my stash too.
