1/72 Revell Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc

In my first article on this site I'll show my 1/72 Revell Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc, which was finished on february of this year. The kit came with two marking options, I chose to finish my model as a Hurricane from the 336th greek sqn. of the desert RAF because I'd never build before an airplane painted with the WWII RAF desert camouflage scheme.

The Revell Hurricane kit is good in general, but has two shortcomings. The first is that the fit of the dust filter under the nose is poor. The second is that the rear part of the clear cockpit canopy doesn't overlap part of the fuselage just after the cockpit, as it does in the full size Hurricane and in kits of other brands. I've built this kit mainly because both me and my son wanted to have a Hurricane with tropical filter in our collection.

My kit was painted mainly with Model Master and Humbrol enamel paints. The control panels' lines where highlighted with thinned paint, the remainder of the panel lines with a pencil. I added just a little weathering: some paint chipping, and dirt at the edges of the control surfaces and exhaust stains with powdered pastel chalks. The antenna was made from human hair.

This is the second 1/72 scale Hurricane kit I've built. The first one was from Academy, was finished as a night fighter and was published ten years ago on the Aircraft Resource Center site.
