P-47M-1-RE Thunderbolt s/n 44-21116 "Lorene" at Boxted in 1945 [PART 1]

October 21, 2024 · in Diorama · · 6 · 105

Hello,
Today, I present to you in a first PART, the finalized base of my new diorama which will accommodate a P-47M TAMIYA #61096 currently under construction (improved cockpit and engine already finalized).
This new project is strongly inspired by a black and white photo proposed on page 79 of the book by Nigel Julian and Peter Randall "The 56th Fighter Group in WWII, Boxted Dog Day to Swan Song: 18th April 1944 to V-E Day and Beyond".
The selected aircraft is a P-47M-1-RE, s/n 44-21116 HV-J "Lorene" assigned to Lt. Russell S Kyler in Boxted in 1945.
The work on this base carried out in parallel with that on the TAMIYA model took much more time than expected.
When the selected aircraft is finished and installed, I will present the overall result in a second PART.
In addition to the photos presented here, if you would like to see all the stages of the work carried out on the basis of this diorama, in a spirit of sharing, I invite you to discover the two detailed articles that I wrote on my personal blog "AVIONS EN KITS".
Best regards
Bernard

  1. Good luck with the dio Bernard 😊 I will pop down to the airfield and visualise where abouts your P-47 would have sat as I only live a couple of miles away from what is now the Boxted museum 👍

    • Thank you Guy for your message 🙂
It's great to live near the airfield.
In my ongoing approach to getting as close as possible to technical and historical reality, I am interested in any information that concerns my diorama 😉

    • Thank you very much Spiros for your appreciation 🙂
For the TAMIYA model of the P-47M, I set myself the goal of finalizing it by December because of the improvements I am making during the production.

Looking forward to see the Thunderbolt parked on it.

    • Thank you very much John for your appreciation 🙂
I am also looking forward to the model being installed (normally during December) 😉
It will be accompanied on the tarmac in concrete slabs by a fire extinguisher in particular.
