Dragon 1/48 Fw 190D
This Fw190D-9 "Schwarz 12" W.Nr. 500570 of 6. Staffel, II./JG 6 was surrendered to elements of the US 10th Photo Reconnaissance Group at Furth, near Nurnberg on May 8th, 1945. "Schwarz 12" was one of the very few FW190D-9's that has been photographed in color. It is believed that "Schwarz 12" had its fuselage and wings manufactured separately and then later mated together during final assembly. It is also possible that it was a "recycled" aircraft manufactured from a collection of undamaged parts or sub-assemblies.
The beginning of the 21st Century saw a wave of Luftwaffe aircraft modelling accompanied by extensive reference backing. I joined the wagon and here is my version of "Schwarz 12".
That's a wonderful Dora, Rafi @blackmopane
As usual, your painting and weathering skills are clearly shown here.
Not sure if it's shown correctly on the images, shouldn't that large antenna at the bottom of the fuselage be pointing backwards.
Thank you, John.
Indeed, the Morane antenna usually points backwards. However, in the case of this particular aircraft it points forward.
@blackmopane, thanks for that, Rafi. Any idea why they mounted the antenna in the other direction?
Probably, haste as the change in resistance to airflow is marginal.
Love your paintwork.
Thank you, Tom.
Nice work, Rafi. I did that plane in 1/32.
Thank you, John.
You must have had a blast.
Excellent job and amazing paintwork, Rafi!
