Tiger Model Panhard AML-90 1:35
This kit caught my eye at my favorite local hobby shop. Having built Tiger Model's nice 1:72 Abrams a few years ago I expected this to be a good kit and was not disappointed. Besides its very nicely molded plastic, good decals, metal barrels, optional vinyl and plastic tires, and PE parts, it includes a full interior and engine. So I decided to build out the interior and open all the hatches and doors to allow maximum visibility.
The AML was a heavily armed scout vehicle that was first deployed in 1961. The version here is armed with a low velocity 90 mm rifled cannon that can fire HE and AT shells. It is airborne deployable and has been used by over 50 countries worldwide in a number of conflicts.
Aside from a couple of open-top SP artillery and Anti-Tank vehicles, this was my first full interior kit. It was a great learning experience. Doing an AFV kit with interior is like building two kits in one. It definitely requires more planning for the painting process. In the case of this vehicle, there are far fewer online resources about its interior than its exterior. Deciding how much wear and tear to depict on the inside took some SWAGing. I fear I over did it a bit.
Overall, I enjoyed this really nice kit. Everything fit well and required extremely little sanding and filling. Assembling the turret basket is a fiddly process though. I painted it in standard NATO camo colors using Mission Models paints, which overall were very dark. Lighter shades might have looked better.
Great job inside and out!
A lot of excellent work and an awesome resul, Dennis!
This is besutifully done, Dennis @dmeyers
Love the details and the weathering.
I've been eyeing this kit for a while and having seen it now I will definitely get it! Great job on a great kit.
@dmeyers echoing everything above. This is an excellent build throughout. I think the finish and wear is just right for a well used vehicle.
