Nose Art

January 10, 2025 · in Aviation · · 13 · 252

First, Happy New to everyone. I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season. This is my first completed build for '25

P-47D in scale. The IPMS club I belong to has a monthly theme and this month is "Nose Art" The build is fictional, the nose art is a picture of my mother from my parents wedding day which is represented by the tail numbers. Moms grankids called her "Miss Betty" and thats the name on the plane. My dads name on the side of the cockpit and he was actually a pilot in the army flying fixed and rotary wing aircraft. The letters on the fuselage represent his initials and the red nose and rudder put the plane with Zemke's Wolfpack in the 56th Fighter group. My dad graduated from NC State, the Wolfpack. Aftermarket Brassin weighted wheels, Eduard seat belts, and I wired up the R2800 and drop tank based on pictures I found. Paint is AK Extreme metallics and was a joy to build. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did...maybe a little less 😉

A beautiful start of 2025 with this build.
What a great nose art idea, did you print that picture/decal of your mom and your dads name yourself.

    • Thanks John! I did print the artwork myself. Went through a couple of variations with the nose art and was worried about the quality of the print for the big letters but it all worked out 😊

  3. Great job, Butch. Good start to 2025

  7. Thank you Sir! Greatly appreciated!

  8. This is the kind of creativity I really enjoy. I appreciate builds of an exact historical plane and markings. But I also enjoy the fun of fantasy. You have really inspired me to try something completely different. Thanks. And a very beautiful model.
