Figure this, the crew is ready....
Well the crew for the Tiger is done, though one lost half his body along the way. Maybe it has to do with the Dragon's Tooth Stout in the last picture, as he had them there! The standing figures in parka and jacket are Alpine miniatures "Winter Panzer crew" set, the fellow with his hands in his pockets is from the Master Box "Rommel and German Tank Crew DAK" set with an Alpine miniatures head and hat from the spares box. And the poor soul with no legs is made up of spare parts with an Alpine miniatures head. Next up painting the Tiger and putting the diorama together!
I'll send you all my unpainted pilot figures...you can paint 'em and send 'em back...no? Oh well...nice job, Rob.
Craig, I'll volunteer, I'm not rembrandt, but I'd be glad to help out.
Thanks, Bernard, but I was [halfheartedly] kidding...I can always revert to figure painting (or unassembled various armament) whilst awaiting a beginning of a yet-to-be stash. I only have one kit going at a time these days. Times is hard, donchaknow. ๐
Outstanding job on those figures, especially the ones wearing camo. For some strange reason the commander looks more like a U-boat captain to me than a tank commander.
I thought the same thing, at least that he would make a good one. Late war Panzer crews wore a variety of clothing from the traditional black uniforms to various articles of Army cammo. So there is lots of possibilities to be explored!
I'm with Seamus's comments ...the "U-Boat captain" could easily pass as vs the tank commander. I like what you've done with the painting of the figures. Some folks like to go with the Spanish school of painting and make things look theatrical your work looks natural and would look good in a tank. Figure painting is one of the hardest skills to master in modeling...making them convincing and pulling off a Goldilocks doesn't happen often. Finding good figures that don't look like cartoons helps. Two thumb up Rob.
This reply needs to get the boot. My editor is all jazzed up on coffee.

Gotta go with the crowd on the "U Boat" looking figure, he looks like he just stepped out of central casting for Das Boat. Nice job on the figures, getting them to appear "real" is an art form, I think you nailed the look!
Well guys all I can say is peruse late war panzer crew pics! The Master box kits are excellent, and generally quite well researched. But yes he would make a good U boat captain as well ๐
Whoa! Did not mean to cause any controversy or to say that the figure is inaccurate in any way. True, towards wars end, the Germans wore a lot of unofficial type clothing.
Oh no, you didn't cause any! Aw heck no ๐ It's all good! And He really would look great on one of those 1/35 U Boats! I originally tried to find a figure in a greatcoat like seen in the Monschau (SP?) footage prior to the Bulge, but could not find any in my stash that would work! And again, at least for me no controversy, discussion is good and healthy and fun!
I remember seeing a U-Boat captain drawing in a german uniform book. He was wearing British battledress. With his white topped uniform cap, mind.
As we used to say back in the U.S. Army, the further away from the flagpole you get, the looser the interpretation of the uniform regs, and all sorts of other things.Unless your C.O. is a (insert expletive) stickler.
Your figure painting is stunning, great job !
