My 2015
The year started with the build of my first resin kit; the French destroyer Le Terrible from Combrig in 1:350. A very nice kit of an interesting and beautiful ship.
Then it was time for a relaxing change, so I built the Yomota in scale 1:3869237.39 from Hasegawa. I used two meters of fishing line for the rigging.
Next came the big build of the year; Hobby Boss Pola in 1:350.
It's the only injection moulded kit in that scale of an Italian cruiser, so, being a fan of the Italian Navy in WWII I had to build her. Quite a bit of scratch building was needed to make her presentable. Actually, about half of what you see is scratch built. Articles about the build are coming up in Modellfan, probably in February, and in Airfix Model World, probably in April.
This is the reason I haven't posted any article about her on this forum. I promised the editors not to post any articles about the build, until after the magazines have come out.
On the workbench right now is the SMS Seydlitz, a German battlecruiser of WWI.
May 31. this year will be the hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Jutland, where she distinguished herself. The Battle of Jutland was one of the most important naval battles of the twentieth century and articles about the build will be coming in time for the anniversary in Modellfan and Tamiya Magazine.
Apart from these builds, I took part in six modeling shows in four countries. 08 Open and C4 in Sweden, Go Modeling in Vienna, Golden Model in Riga, IPMS Germanys show at the Gatow airbase in Berlin and Small Scale Convention in Heyden, Germany.
Phew, nice builds and well done travelling with your models. Is it he late war rigging on the Yomota?
Yes, that's how she was rigged during the japanese victory ceremony in Tokyo Bay in May 1946.
Well, with all the documenatry material from the ceremony it should be a piece of cake to rig it right ;
Beautiful build as usual, sir...personally, I could never keep my sanity attempting all that rigging. Nice work all around.
Wonderful attention to detail, and the commitment to the subject is second to none (as usual).
Beautiful builds, Ulf. The amount of details is amazing, especially on the Pola whixh is a quite crude kit.
Trumpeter will release some italian Ships in 2016.
From which brand is the Seydlitz ?
