I started building scale models when I was around 8 years old. I was influenced by my older cousin and an uncle who built models. I remember seeing their finished models of planes and being immediately drawn into the hobby. I built all kinds of models.. aircraft, armour, sci-fi, automobiles. I discovered I enjoy building things. My assembly & finishing skills slowly improved until I started college in the early '90's. Then I just lost interest in building and put my unfinished and collected kits in storage, planning to return to the hobby one day.

Fast forward to 2020 and I dive back into scale modelling hard. I refreshed all my tools & supplies and bought an airbrush & compressor. The airbrush was a game changer. I dug out a partially built Tamiya T-34 Model 1943 and finished it. Social media was a huge help in getting up to speed with current techniques and improving my skills in a relatively short time. Seeing my completed T-34 got me hooked into the hobby again.

My current primary interest is 1/35 WW2 armour.

Tamiya 1/35 Sd.Kfz.250/9

The Sd.Kfz 250 (Sonderkraftfahrzeug; 'Special vehicle') was a light armoured half-track build by DEMAG, very similar in appearance to the larger Hanomag-designed Sd.Kfz. 251. The 250/9 leichter Schützenpanzerwagen (armoured infantry [...]

Tamiya 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.V Ausf.G

My first Panther completed. This is the Ausf.G steel wheel version manufactured by M.A.N. in limited numbers. As expected, the kit came together easily. This Tamiya is a 1993 tooling and for the most part is nicely detailed. But I wanted [...]

HobbyBoss 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.I Ausf.F (VK 18.01)

I'm finally up to date on my posts here. The Versuchskampffahrzeug (abbreviated to VK or Vs.Kfz.) is a German term meaning "research/experimental fighting vehicle". Used in the names of some German experimental or prototype [...]

Tamiya 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.II Ausf.F

It was time to get back to a Tamiya kit again.. I picked up this classic 1971 tooled kit last year. I wish I had built this kit when I started modelling as a kid. It’s a great starter kit OOTB. Inexpensive & easy to build. If [...]

Trumpeter 1/35 KV-1 Model 1942 Lightweight Cast Turret

After a couple complex Panzer kits with lots of tires, I wanted to do something easier with no rubber wheels and less parts.. I chose the Trumpeter Kliment Voroshilov-1 Model 1942 Lightweight Cast turret from my stash. I added an Aber [...]

HobbyBoss 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.D Tauchpanzer

My next build was my first HobbyBoss (Tristar rebox) kit. A Panzer IV Ausf.D Tauchpanzer, literally “diving tank”. A number of Panzer IIIs & Panzer IVs were converted into submersible tanks for the planned invasion of England [...]

RFM 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.J

After the Czech tanks, the time had come to build a Panzer III. I went for the new Ryefield Model Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.J (2020 tool). A very cleanly molded & detailed kit with workable tracks and suspension. I chose to build as a fixed [...]

Trumpeter 1/35 Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) Ausf.E

Still building in a loosely chronological order. I wanted to get the Czech tanks done before starting on the German made Panzers.. The fit of this Trumpeter kit was good overall, but there were some issues with gaps with the top plate at [...]

Academy 1/35 Pz.Kpfw. 35(t)

In March 1938, Hitler implemented the occupation of the Sudetenland (Bohemia-Moravia) and the seizure of Czechoslovakia. As a result, the Germans took over the Czechoslovak industry, including the Skoda factory, which produced the Lehký [...]

Bronco 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.II Ausf.D

Since returning to this hobby in 2020, I decided to focus on WW2 armour in 1/35. My first purchase happened to be this Bronco Pz.II Ausf.D and a HobbyBoss Pz.I Ausf.A. I was thinking of building some german tanks in a somewhat [...]
