I mainly build in 1/72 scale and 1/144 for airliners.
I prefer them big, so multi-engined transports, bombers, special mission aircraft are the go. I also like to build modern RAAF and US Military, Finnish Air Force subjects.

My 2017 in Review

I managed to finish 14 models for the year. Some were a concerted effort to reduce the number on the shelf of doom. The majority are 1/72 except for the Mirage (1/48) and USS Excelsior (1/1000). The C-17 came very close, but I got [...]

Welsh Models 1/72 Boeing 737-7DT (BBJ) – 34 Squadron, RAAF

Welsh Models are known for the vacform/resin kits. This kit was a challenge in some areas, in particular getting a solid join between the vacform fuselage and resin wing roots. The other issue I had was the amount of nose weight required [...]

Revell 1/144 Boeing 767-338 Australian Airlines

This is the Revell B767-300 (KLM boxing) built in Australian Airlines colour. I built it out of the box except for the decals which came from Draw Decal. A fairly simple build until you reach the fuselage marking. Fortunately, Draw Decal [...]

Italeri 1/72 KC-135R Stratotanker, 100th ARW

This is the Italeri KC-135R built out of the box. I used a mixture of kit decals and those from a Wolfpak sheet. I attempted to build this (foolishly) as part of a club Blitz build over a weekend. I almost got there too. A couple of weeks [...]

Dassault Falcon 900

Having served in the RAAF and worked on the Falcon 900 business jet used as a VIP transport at no 34 Squadron I had to have a model of one. At the time I started this project there were no 1/72 kits available (July 2004). I found out that [...]

Italeri C-130A Hercules, 36 SQN RAAF

As you may have figured out by now, I like to build larger aircraft types in 1/72. This is the Italeri C-130E/H kit (1/72) built as a C-130A from 36SQN RAAF. Decals are from an Aussie Decals sheet and the A model propellers and fuel tanks [...]

B707 Tanker – RAAF 33 SQN

This is an Airfix E-3 kit built as a B707. I used the JT3 engines from the kit and left off the AEW specific parts. Decals and tanker conversion parts are from Hawkeye Models Australia.

Hercules C.1 XV292

Finished this not long ago after it languished on the shelf of doom for 18 months. As it had been masked up for so long it was difficult to remove the cockpit masking. Patched up the cracked paint as best I could. The kit is the original [...]
