I mainly build in 1/72 scale and 1/144 for airliners.
I prefer them big, so multi-engined transports, bombers, special mission aircraft are the go. I also like to build modern RAAF and US Military, Finnish Air Force subjects.
QANTAS obtained 4 EX-RAF Consolidated LB-30 Liberators from BOAC in 1944 to supplement the Catalinas servicing the Kangaroo Route (or Double Sunrise route) to Colombo in Ceylon. They did the trip 5 hours faster and could carry 4 times the payloa[...]
his kit started as an Italeri C-130E/H and along the way I
1. Re-scribed the model,
2. Reposition cabin windows for a J model,

To start, the FW-200B never saw service with QANTAS. I started this kit a few years ago and it stalled due to paint matching problems for another What-If scheme. A month ago I took it down from the shelf of doom and its holding pattern and strip[...]
I finished this one last year for the RAF 100 group build here and it also featured in our club RAF 100 display. It is the Revell 1/72 A400M kit built out of the box with repositioned flight controls and aftermarket decals from Babibi for ZM406 [...]

This is the 1/72 Academy PBY-5A converted to a PB2B-2 in QANTAS markings (by Hawkeye Models Australia) with the Red Roo Conversion set. First completion for 2018.
I managed to finish 14 models for the year. Some were a concerted effort to reduce the number on the shelf of doom. The majority are 1/72 except for the Mirage (1/48) and USS Excelsior (1/1000).
The C-17 came very close, but I got preoccupied wi[...]
Welsh Models are known for the vacform/resin kits. This kit was a challenge in some areas, in particular getting a solid join between the vacform fuselage and resin wing roots. The other issue I had was the amount of nose weight required to coun[...]
