I also have a 1/350 cruiser lurking in my stash, so I know what you mean, Jay (@ssgt). I also work on one kit at a time until it is done. The only kit of any kind that I shelved before completion was a 1/350 ship.

Got the funnel section painted and attached to the deck as well as the base the #2 main gun turret is on. The bridge is still loose and under construction. I used some black and rust colored chalk powders to try to weather it a little. After it was sprayed with clear, it wasn’t very discernible . I also put the name decals on the sides and stern and also the white stripe on the funnel . It’s looking pretty good , still have a long way to go though.

George @gblair... I think I’ll probably finish this destroyer and the Hasegawa destroyer I have and then call it quits on 1/350 scale ships. The Indy needs a new home.

Thank for the comments , @v1pro, @johnb, & @fiveten... I do like the decals on the side, makes it look more unique ... as the war dragged on, the names on the sides of the ships were deleted by 1944. The project is become more interesting now that the superstructure is being added. Last night I also painted the propellers and will be adding those soon.

The bridge structure is complete and has been glued in place on the deck. When it’s dry I’m going to dry brush some highlights on some of the raised details. I also started assembling the aft deck house that contains torpedo storage and has the number 3 main gun turret mounted on it as well as assorted AA guns and other odds & ends.

That bridge, @fiveten & @johnb , even has small parts that can’t be seen behind the windows at the top. Pretty amazing that I installed them.

A little bit more progress to report…… the aft deck house is permanently attached to the deck, the anchors are in place on the bow, and the propellers are also installed. The masts and life boats are the next two major milestones. There are also a few more little parts to install , including a torpedo on a trolley that’s displayed on the deck as if it’s in the process of being loaded in to the torpedo storage area in the aft deck house. I’m not sure what the correct color is for a Japanese torpedo, the instructions are in Chinese & Japanese. I’m thinking maybe light gray or dull silver with a red nose on it … maybe ? Still a lot of paint touch up to do also.

That little bit of progress adds a lot, Jay @ssgt
Your close-up pictures make it look like a large ship, but the last picture shows how small it actually is.

Hi John @johnb, I’m happy to see some noticeable progress ! It’s not as fun as building aircraft, I’ve decided. This Akizuki is 15 inches long , just the right size.

I really like the detail you are getting on this ship, Jay (@ssgt). I have the itch now, so as soon as I get this move to our new house done, it will be time to build some 1/350.
