OK. I lightened the underside color and resprayed. This is much more to my liking and will harmonize well with the upper surface.

. I used better lighting for these last pics, so the color is a truer blue. I used the same color to redo the tanks, flaps and undercarriage, but I won't bore you with revised pics. Interestingly, the cabling in the wheel wells shows up better - bonus. Phew, lots of work today to get this right. BTW, this is the color I am going for. Happy modeling.

    You are right, Colin @coling
The blue is much more realistic this way, very nice correction.

Thanks, John@johnb . Glad you like the new color. I took a risk by rushing the repaint a bit, but acrylics are forgiving and it worked out fine. Masking around those darn flap actuator arms will continue to be tricky but I am hoping to get the Tamiya Red Brown and Olive Drab camo done this weekend.

Thanks, Spiros@fiveten. I am happy with the blue, finally. I know it will change color again under a clear coat, but that is for the better as an even brighter shade will work fine.

Thanks, David@davem. I am glad you are along for the ride. The colors are tricky but the upper camo should look fine with just straight Tamiya Red Brown and Olive Drab (with weathering, of course). I am putting most of my energies into this build now, so fingers crossed it will be mostly done over the Easter Weekend.

Much better looking blue,@coling. I think you have it dialed in. This is looking really good. Happy Easter Weekend. Almost as much fun as painting eggs!

Thanks, Eric. Persistence pays off. I will hang in there to get this done. It will be good to have another Falklands/Malvinas build done for this year's anniversary. Happy Easter to you too! Funny that this camo shade is a kind of Robin's Egg Blue.

Major painting done so far this weekend. I started yesterday with the Tamiya Red Brown over an enhanced pre-shade ( a bit of last minute darkening over details). I tried to make this as transparent as I could without being patchy (weathering is quite a challenge at this stage). I left the OD Green sections roughed in with no Red Brown coverage in order to preserve the pre-shade for later.

I spend most of Saturday morning doing the complex mirror camo masking with paper, tape and silly putty. Then back in the spray booth for Tamiya OD. I used my Custom Micron throughout to try to keep a weathered look that wouldn't be too even overall and also to avoid puddling under the silly putty strips. It turned out pretty well. One thing nice about Tamiya Acrylics is that you can pull the masking off quite soon after painting as the paints dry so fast. I will now let this cure til tomorrow. I have touch-ups to do in the Red Brown areas where my application was too thin. I have left the masks on in key areas (especially the underside) to make respraying safer, without marring the overall camo by accident. Overall, I am pleased with the colors. They will darken up appropriately with a Tamiya clear coat prior to oil wash and decaling. I will paint the drop tanks (half camo) and slats tomorrow and maybe do a wee bit of post-shading as well. Hope you like it so far. Happy Modeling.

Thanks, Spiros. Here is another update. I decided to go ahead and do the paint touch ups today, working mostly freehand with the Custom Micron, so low risk without masks. I also decided to remove all the masking top and bottom, including the covering for slat bays.

I was a bit nervous that my 5 thou inserts that fixed the step in the slat area might lift off or tear with the masking tape. Luckily, all was fine.

Tomorrow I have the camo to do for the drop tanks and maybe a clear coat on the model itself. I am on the fence about doing the yellow ID panels on the wings. I don't know if Guadagnini's A-4B had them. We'll see. Hope you like what you see here. I am pretty pleased with the harmony of the colors and their overall accuracy. So far so good.

Thanks, Spiros @fiveten. Motoring along this weekend. Clear coat is done and camo on tanks is done. I won't post this further work until I have a bit more done, since it looks much the same shiny.

Thanks John @johnb. The Argentine A-4B/Qs are very striking-looking. Only some of the more complex US Navy schemes are as attractive to the eye. It's a lot of work to get the camo to wrap around the intakes, though.
