Those are small models by themselves, my friend @eb801!
You did a great job there!

BACK IN THE PAINT SHOP AGAIN!

Finally getting around to the paint job at last. After quite a bit of masking over the Alclad aluminum undercoating, I proceed to spray a very thin coat of light sea blue on the undersides of the Pucará. I used Tamiya light blue XF-23 which is pretty close to RLM 78, thinned with Tamiya flat white and a dash of straight blue. I mixed the paint batch 50/50 with thinner and airbrushed it lightly exposing a little metal wear and tear here and there. I let it dry and then sprayed a light coat of future over it for protection as there is more masking to come ahead. I also spent quite a bit of time painting and decaling the props which are now ready for installation down the road. Next up: topside cameo.

Looking really nice, my friend @eb801!
The protective coat of Future is a great idea.

Looks very smooth, Eric. Very precise work on the props and hubs. I really like your layered approach to painting and weathering. I also use Tamiya clear as a sealer and protector, especially of fragile metalizers. For what it's worth, I always thin it with Acrylic Retarder these days, in addition to Tamiya Thinner. For me, it really helps to keep it even and glossy over metalizer.

Such a great job. I especially like the props and gearbox. Very french. . .

Colin: that’s a good tip about the retarder which I have. Think it would work with Future?

It might work. I have used the Tamiya retarder with great success for Gunze paints as well as Tamiya and they have distinctly different smells/formulas. I would suggest you try the Future plus retarder on a practice model. I have a well-used wing of a Heller Mirage III that I do all kinds of paint experiments on and then clean up with Windex (I like to start fresh with each experiment).

    Painting Resumes Again!
I have been neglecting this Pucará for months and finally got back to it. I decided not to do any pre-shading and will take care of that later. I started by spraying the lighter camo color first using a well thinned Vallejo Model Air US Desert Sand. Here's the progress so far"

I will be following this up shortly with the darker Duck Egg Green using paper masks as a guide and tracing the lines with pencil.

Great to see you back at work on this, Eric. I like the look of the US Desert Sand. It should reproduce the base color of the FAA camo very well. Post shading is often the better option for me when I do camo patterns as pre-shading tends to disappear as a two color scheme gets applied. All in all, your Pucara is looking fine. BTW, love the detail painting on the props and hubs from earlier.
