'...Oh G*d what has he done ?'

First time doing a winter white scheme on an aircraft build (I've done it on a couple of AFV builds). After the decals, I sprayed a light coat of clear, then a couple of days later, two overall coats of hairspray which I left overnight and now a light 'cloud' coat of white, followed by a panel-by-panel mottle (which is when I took the pics), then another light overall coat of white to blend it all together.

I'll leave this overnight again then start chipping it away around the leading edges, access points and markings. Stay tuned, more soon - please feel free to comment, critique or ask any questions. Have a good weekend all.

That winter scheme looks good.Doing it after the decals takes a brave man and a steady hand, but you've gotten just the right effect.

    Very nice camouflage, Ian @ij001
Was also surprised you painted it after the decals, but it turned out great.

I am really looking forward to the rest of your winter scheme, Ian (@ij001). I have used chipping fluid before in selected areas, but have never tried the entire plane. Looking forward to the great chipping adventure. Two questions: Did you spray the hairspray from the can or decant it and spray? What brand/type paint did you use on the white overspray? Cheers.

Decanted then airbrushed, white is simply Tamiya X2 thinned about 70% with Tamiya's own thinner.

Thanks for the info, Ian (@ij001). We just moved to a new house, and I was digging through some boxes and found my unbuilt Airfix Do-17. Your build reminded how cool they looked, so it is going into my build queue. At the rate I am building, it should hit the workbench somewhere in 2029. :o)

@ij001: that winter camo scheme is off to a great start. I’m impressed you had the oomph to decal first and airbrush the white afterwards but in reality that’s how it was applied on the field back then so your approach makes total sense.

Been a month since the last update, and it's progressed to the point of final assembly.

Chipping didn't go quite to plan, the rear fuselage especially just isn't how I would have liked it to look, but if you don't try you don't learn, right. Stains and streaks are all W & N oils. Will prioritise the Fw build then finish this on off. Hopefully be done in about ten days time.

Have the rest of a great weekend all.
