Wow, Erik@airbum - This is very impressive. Talk about kit-bashing! Have you ever thought about becoming a surgeon? There was a wonderful hobbyshop that I loved that was actually called "The Plastic Surgeon". Unfortunately it's long gone. Keep me posted on this build.

    Amazing work done, Erik @airbum
That gap, cannot even be described by capitols, it is huge.

@fiveten, right, a whole lot of fun! – and thanks
    Thanks @lis, I aim to please. . .
For the sake of mankind, no @eb801. And I will.
Fortunately a solution has been found to reduce the gap @johnb. More on that another time.

    The office

Attention turned to the office, to get the fuselage closed

It will be a lot easier to get the fuselage bits done with it closed, and so I started on the cockpit. First, a few words about the IP; These machines were as good as a whole new plane, and of course the instrument panel (IP) were very different than a 109. The left side panel were a bit wider – the center thus moved to the right, and the right panel had the variometer in the “kneehole” underneath.

The AML photoetch panel looks very nice, but sadly it is too wide for the eduard cockpit. I will make some tests to see what to do.

The radiohatch has a quicklocking panel in it and a piece of tape were uset to transfer the shape from the AML hatch.

The tape was transferred to mark the location, then a knife and needle were used to cut the hatch.

The right panel was re-worked, fuellines moved, breathing hose removed, a panel for signalcartridges made and a handle and pushrod made

On the left side the fuelprimer had to be altered, and a few more items, like the trimwheels will come later.

On the floor the radio and the fuelpump were deleted

And the back of the cannoncover was removed (they did not have an enginecannon and used the space for something else).

next up I hope to have the fuselage closed – tune in again to check, and feel free to comment

    Beautiful detailing Erik @airbum
Your attention to perfection on 109's, or in this case S199, is amazing.

@fiveten, @lis, @eb801 and @johnb, another update on this one.

    Major assembly!

The last few days I have been working on the cockpit

And with that done it was time to assemble the fuselage. There is as you have seen major surgery needed to get this one in shape, and off camera I cut a slot in the hobbycraft nose to make it fit the width of the eduard fuselage. It is a bit lower too, so a piece of card has been added.

It is starting to look like an S-199, even though a lot of sanding etc is still needed.

I am more or less satisfied with the cockpit, but the major challenge will of course be to get the correct IP installed under a eduard windscreen

as it will have a sliding hood, the direction finder had to be re-positioned.

I suppose the LqS and glue will have to harden before further progress on this one can take place – tune in again to check

I really have to thank you for doing this @airbum, since Eduard has announced a 1/72 S.199 and CS.199 for June and 1/48 kits for the fall. Your hard work in bring this about is deeply appreciated. 🙂

This S199 will be a very accurate replica of the original one, Erik @airbum
Your approaches are very helpful to improve our skills as well.

Yes, Erik @airbum - that 199 you're building is looking very accurate as you can see by these two photos I snapped of the real thing a few years ago. I was in Prague and got in touch with the folks at Eduard who steered me to the Kbely Air Museum as well a killer hobby shop in central downtown.

Thank you @fiveten, so do I.
    @johnb, appreciate your kind words
@eb801, thanks for the photos, they are great stuff indeed.
(as for the last of the nice comments above TC has chosen to mute me so I am not really able to comment on his postings)

    Making dust, filling

With the LqS and glue hardened it was time to sand it, and the wings got some serious filler

The nose got attention from a new coarse sandingstick to get the shape right

Creating a bit of dust in the process.

It is my experience that some of the late-model eduard 109’s have a considerable gap at the wingroots, and usually I can cancel that out by being extra careful and sanding before assembling the upper and lower skins.

On this one, I have forgotten to do that.

But a pair of thin strips will address that, so a bit more sanding to do before assembling the wing/fuselage.

next up I hope to have the basic shape assembled, but a lot of details still need attention. You will have to check in to see what happens (and of course leaving a comment will warrant a mention in the next update as usual)

That’s some insight and thoughtful planning Erik.
I’m yet to build any of the G-10 kits Eduard put out, but up to the G-6/14 I don’t t recall having experienced big gaps between the fuselage and the wing surfaces, so thanks for the heads up my friend
