Thanks gentlemen. The gap usually can be eliminated by careful sanding of the outer end of the lower wing.

By the way, Eduard said in their January newsletter that the S-199 will become available on e-day (august?) 2022, so the patient amongst us can have one by then.

@johnb, @fiveten and @holzhamer, sorry for the long wait, but I have been waiting for some AM parts (and some time to spend at the bench)

    Exhausts and guns

I had been searching for the correct exhausts, and a few items has turned up

The ones in the kit are very poor – and wrong shape as they are for a K-4, and the eduard ones are for a G-6. I ordered a pair of resin exhausts for a Ju87 from Hasegawa and took a pair from an Airfix kit.

The AM parts are too short, and the airfix ones too narrow, so for this build I shall use the eduard as the least wrong ones – no doubt some correct ones will appear when eduard gets their 1/48 Avia available.

As for the MG’s the originals were modified, but I did not like the result

so once again the eduard part will be modified.

next up some larger items most likely, but tune in again later to check

Erik, I’ve used the Quickboost 109 exhaust set design for the Hasegawa kit on my 109 F from Eduard last year and it fits nicely in the kit. Furthermore they’re dimensionally more accurat.
That’s some Frankenstein work going on 😉 looking forward to see how it turns out

Thanks gents. @holzhamer, the Avia needs Jumo exhausts from Ju87 / 88 or He 111 to look the part. I will go with these for the time being. If I do it again, I probably would make the opening fit the Airfix Ju87 exhausts as it would look "less wrong". 🙂

I did add the eduard MG cover, and a lot of small pieces of evergreen today - more on that later!

This is looking absolutely incredible ! Like you, lately I too have had little to no time at the work bench lately... 🙁

    Hopefully this will change soon.

    Erik, @airbum
    Pedro, @holzhamer
I am always impressed by you guys and your knowledge on the 109, (and it seems most everything that flew in the Luftwaffe). 🙂

@fiveten, thanks – and it is a pleasure being able to post an update
    @holzhamer, thank you again.
@johnb, indeed – and it is not at all over yet.
    @lgardner, I read a lot, that helps (OK – look at pictures a lot. . .)

    More parts added

I got the MG cover to fit, and added a few “moving parts”

Not that they are to move on this kit though, and more sanding and paintfiller finished

The hood will be replaced later on, and has just been put here to keep the office dust- and primerfree.

next up I do believe it will be on legs as I always do that on these kits, making it a bit easier to prime. Tune in later – and comments are indeed encouraged

@fiveten, @johnb, @j-healy, @gblair, @lis, @eb801, @holzhamer and @lgardner, thanks for your support through this build. It has now reached the state of first layer of primer, so I guess it is about 90% finished with only 90% work remaining before it is finished?

    Prime time

Got off work early the other day and prepped a pair of 109’s for primer

All looks more or less nicely blended in. . .

but with a lot of finetuning still to come, and as can be seen it is now on its legs that had a week to cure.

As mentioned in my 109V-13 log, the primer did have the usual problem of creating dust

it is easily cleaned up, and it still needs a lot of finetuning anyway.

next up I hope to have commenced with the last small bits and fairings that makes a 199 look like a 199.

Looking great, my friend @airbum! No guesses for the windscreen hole + no luck by netting so far...
    A strange hole...

    Nice progress, Erik @airbum
Same here regarding the windscreen, no idea myself and nothing found on internet.

    Erik, @airbum
You are definitely making great progress. I know on several American fighters from this era, they had a similar hole in the general cockpit area that was used for signal flares.

Could this be what this hole was used for, or could it possibly be a ventilation hole to help prevent carbon monoxide poisoning ?
