That is a real pity, Sebastijan @inflames.

I can imagine that you lost your mojo at that point.

Contacting Tamiya would also be my first thoughts, but it will take some time before replacement parts will arrive.

Scratch building the back plate, like suggested by George @gblair, will be the quickest solution.

Mounted the landing gear. Since it is not the easiest method to mount it, I decided to do the painting post mounting. Brake lines still need to attached.

Landing gear looks good, John (@johnb). I always put the gear on before painting so that it has some legs to stand on while painting. I don't mind masking and painting them later. I finished the pods for the gear yesterday, and plan to do the struts today. I did the 2-part gluing on the pods, which worked fine. Both pods required clamps to hold the rear in place while the glue dried. The nose section has required a lot of attention. The top seam has been a problem child that keeps needing additional rounds of filler and sanding. Once I got all the seams looking OK, it took 3 clamps to hold the nose in place on the plane while the glue dried.

@gblair, thanks a lot, George. The nose section is, till now, also my least favorite part of this build. Let's say it is a challenging piece.

Brake lines are added to the landing gear. A bit of painting done as well. Weathering of the landing gear will be done at the final steps.

The propellor and cone are put together and dry fitted to the nose section, no issue on this part.

And this is how she looks currently, still without the broken tailwheel.

Thanks guys for the words of support.
I said to myself if I don't try to build that piece immediately, I will struggle starting on it. So after a few glasses of adult drinks from Isle of Skye distillery, I managed to retrace, mirror and cut to shape the rear bulkhead and today I managed to add the angled piece. The result can be seen below. I have a few little gaps to fill but I think I can call it a save. I just hope it will fit.

Looks good, John (@johnb). It looks like things are coming together. It looks like you managed to follow the instructions on the landing gear, unlike me. More on this in the next post.

Well done, Sebastijan (@inflames). After you paint the new piece, you won't be able to tell the difference. But still, you shouldn't have had to rebuild the part in the first place.

My plane is sitting on its feet, but, as usual, one step forward and two steps back. It has been mentioned several times in this group build that you need to read the instructions as well as looking at the diagrams. I think I need to write this at the top of each page. The diagram shows that you need to cut a cross piece from each landing gear. Easy enough. I cut the piece, then cleaned up the strut with a sanding stick. It was at this point I started wondering how the wheel would attach to the struts. I decided I should probably now read the instructions, and discovered that I had cut off and sanded away the attachment points for the wheels. I found some styrene rod of the right diameter and replaced the wheel axle I had removed. Everything should be fine, now. Like I said, one step forward and two steps back.

@inflames, that is a great save, Sebastijan. Well done.

@gblair, thanks a lot, George. To be honost, I had to look at the AM instructions and on Spiros', @fiveten, pictures as well to figure out how to actually mount the landing gear. Looking forward to your work on the MLG.

@fiveten, thank you, Spiros. I had some help from your already finished Il2 to be honost. Your pictures of the landing gear were quite helpful.

I still haven't figured out why AM molded the main struts with those axles that have to be carefully removed, my friends @gblair, @johnb and @inflames...
    A mystical experience...

    Thanks guys!
I guess the reason could be some moulding limitation so that the wheel struts are kept perfectly parallel with that "to be removed" piece?

Hi guys - AM instructions can be very obtuse and require repeated carefully readings I find. Maybe that’s why Academy retooled a new set of instructions for their AM Vindicator series repop. Much clearer and totally sensible at last! I downloaded them from scalemates.com and followed them instead.

You are right, Eric (@eb801). Perhaps by the end of the build I will remember to check both the diagram and the description.
