Thanks guys. Been at it some more. I think the B will be Shangri La. Many more planned, the hardest bit is deciding which to do first. The wheel bays are spectacular and scream for plumbing. North American sure made a spaghetti mess out of them…adding a few for eye candy brings them to life.

Nice progress. Eduard Mustangs are super. I've built two so far and have a third waiting in line, Jim @jimh. "Shangra La" is a solid choice for your B variant and perhaps the most well known. Can't wait to get mine when Eduard releases a single plane ProfiPACK and the buzz demand dies down a bit.

I appreciate all the positive comments! I hate to keep gushing about these kits but they are amazing. I’m sold on Eduard. Anyone want a cheap stash of Tamiya Mustangs 😬😂 The D is through black basing and the B is close.

More progress. The May Eduard newsletter shows a great step by step breakdown of how Honza Baranec applied the nmf finish. Using this as a guide I ordered the Mr Color lineup of metallizer paints. Being a die hard Alclad user I was skeptical. Not any more, the MC paints are brilliant. They go on as well as any color in the lineup, dry to the touch in minutes and have been bulletproof to my excess use of tape 😬. I painted the entire model in about 3 hours. Most of that time was waiting for the liquid mask to cure for the individual panels. Using Honza’s ‘cloud’ method of misting on the different shades and letting the black show through really works…which I found is impossible to capture in photos…I know it’s the photographer. This is the first step in the process…Abteiling Oils are next and some other washes. Fingers crossed it comes out as I’m picturing it. The 352nd Blue is Tamiya X-8 and a ‘wing it’mixtrue of white. Since there aren’t any known color photos of Cripes it’s mostly guesswork toning it to the black and white photos. More soon!

Great result on the NMF, Jim @jimh
Also the 352nd blue does look perfect.

Back to the B for a minute. My only gripe…the carb door in the upper cowling comes as a PE part. It looks wrong just glued in place. I used it as a pattern to scribe in to the fuse plastic. It’s a pita…not going to candy coat it. This feature was later deleted on future B/C’s and they were actually screwed shut in the field. Unfortunately, a lot of the cool paint scheme airframes have this door. It’s getting there though. Almost ready for paint.

I agree with the decision on the carb door Jim (@jimh). PE is not always the best solution. I think you would have had to cut out a small section of the plastic and fitted the PE door in there to make that piece to work. Your solution was a better choice.

NMF looks excellent. I am preparing to do an NMF build soon and I too will be using the MC metallics.

Great progress and wise decision to scribe the carb door instead of using the PE part, my friend @jimh!
