If my project has provided you with a inspiration, Bernard, then that's (almost) enough for me... Best compliment ever !

    First grey coat on:
Just one fairly thin coat of Xtracolour enamel Lt. Gull Grey. I'd lightened this tin a little while ago, perhaps too much. For the next thin coat I'll use a fresh unopened one and spray a random 'cloud pattern'. Thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment.

So as you can see, layer-by-layer the weathering is going-on. I appreciate that at this point (especially the undersides) the effects look a little overdone, but the process is only two-thirds complete.

Following another layer or two, the decals and a couple of varnish coats the 'in your face' effect should recede... maybe !

Please feel free to jump in with any criticisms, comments or outrage. More next week.

It's looking good! Part of the art is knowing how much will be hidden once you begin to overspray with dullcoat, etc. I've noticed that particularly using oils, and depending on the lightness/darkness of the paint over which I've used them, tend to fade under too much dullcoat, more so than some other weathering mediums. I'm thinking yours will look great once you get that far.

Ian, I like what you've done. Looks what I'd think is "normal" for an operational aircraft, floating on the boat on Yankee Station. Used, but not abused, but there's a war on. Salt water, humidity, monsoons, corrosion repairs and op tempo all take their toll. 'taint pretty.

Very nice. Kinda makes me want to dust off the RF-8 C&H Aero conversion that I was doing. Great job can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks Andy, it is making it's way back to the bench, however there's a BIG F-15 in the way at the moment and a new Airfix Defiant desperately trying to attract my attention also ! - Must be strong, must try and focus...

Great work Ian - nearly there - love that streaking/fading on the lower fuselage.

    Can't do that Bernard,

After the squadron decals, there's all the stencils then the sealing coats, then a little more weathering, then the load-out and final assembly... I've put a lot in to it, so taking my time finishing it properly is the right thing to do, wouldn't you say ?

    Good morning everyone:
Well it's finally back on the bench, and the decals are going on. Only got around 45mins yesterday so just got the checkers on both sides of the rudder and ventral fins. The stars'n bars over the refueling probe bulge snuggled down very nicely because the Aeromaster decals are measured for this kit, so the obvious potential fit issue, simply didn't happen.

Stay tuned, more will happen this week.

Main decals on: Next I'm putting all the stencils on courtesy of an old Superscale sheet (48-283) that I've had in the stash since 1991 !

    Stay tuned, folks.

Ian, the weathering turned out very well. Hope you don't go cross-eyed puttin' on them de-cals. Getting close!
