Thanks @gblair @johnb I was able to get my primer on. Decided to go with black versus my normal gray to cut down on the need to pre-shade:
Completed the engine. Painted it and placed wiring based on a reference photo I found:
This one shows where I had to cut the engine to get the cowl to fit:
Excellent job on the cowling, my friend @greenterrorz! Ditto overall progress! The engine looks awesome!
Extra wiring on the engine looks great, Keith (@greenterrorz). I didn't consistently use primer until recently. Now I use black about 50% of the time specifically for shading effects. The other half of the time I use gray and then black pre-shade over it.
Great paintwork and a wonderful engine, Keith @greenterrorz
Apparently I forgot to add leads wires to the spark plugs. I have now added them and decided to paint them a dull yellow color.
Even more detailed, Keith @greenterrorz The spark plug wires look nice in yellow.
The wiring looks awesome, my friend @greenterrorz!
Thank you @johnb @fiveten
I got the body, cowl, and fuel tank painted:
Someone on another modeling forum I frequent sent me these IJN figures to use for my final display. I got a base coat on them in preparation to hand paint them in a few days:
The model looks wonderful so far, as do the figures, my friend @greenterrorz!
Excellent paintwork, Keith @greenterrorz Those figures will definitely add a lot to the diorama.
Masking and painting complete!
Excellent job and awesome result so far, my friend @greenterrorz! Painting the red sections is way better than using decals. Looking forward to your next steps!
Those painted markings do look much better than decals, Keith @greenterrorz
Thank you both for you continued support on this build - @fiveten @johnb
I got the gloss varnish on 2 days ago in preparation of decals. Tonight I got all the decals on:
Itβs bitter sweet completing this step, as I have finally finished using all the decals from the giant decal sheet that was supplied for all 3 kits.
Tomorrow I will apply another gloss varnish to reduce silvering and as a layer of protection before oil washes.
Looks great with all decals on, Keith @greenterrorz
