Another plane built to your usual high standards, Erik (@airbum). It is really cool to see an unusual paint scheme on a 109.

    Burnin’

    No, wait, burnishing

Today I made a hit-and-run at my “local” hobbyshop, and bought some Brass burnishing liquid. I put the brass barrels for the wings in for half a minute

It got quite a dark appearance to begin with, but it turned out it was just some surface residue. After wiping them they looked somewhat better. I put them back in and rushed to the PC to post this, and then I will check up on them again.

I do believe any hardware store might have the stuff to “antiquate” brass, but the local shop was not all that expensive

    Wow, my friend @airbum!
    What a nice little trick!
    I love it!

They look good, Erik (@airbum). This liquid looks similar to the darkening liquid used by armor modelers on their metal tracks.

George, I do believe it may be in the same leauge, but there are some subtle differences to white metal and brass burnishing liquid I'm told. Anyway I went ahead and tried to remove the dusty black powder today. I broke off a few flakes of the burnished surface in the process, so I'll have to try it again later. It seems like it has to be absolutely clean and free from grease etc before burnishing.

    Thanks @fiveten and @gblair

Thanks John (@JohnB). My good friend Klavs (@klavs1972) told me he usually brushes his on, and so I went and gave it a try today - results to follow soon!

    That’s about it

I re-visited the barrels with some more liquid

And it seems to work this way – brushing it on. I added the last details, wanted to trim the antenna, messed up, installed a new one, and with that, it is about all there is to do on this year-and-a-half build.

    The overall view

I have learned a lot, not least about airbrushing after this one, and the theme will have to be re-visited one day, but all-in-all not all that bad.

Some details for those who wants to see what all the trouble ended up with

I personally think that with the increase in skills after taking on all of these small details, I have honed quite a few of those, even though I by no means claim to be an expert. One important lesson learned after I re-entered the hobby (and one I still struggle with) is patience – if a thing is worth doing it is worth doing properly, being it a hand or mental skill right down to research. That will not stop me from making OOB builds, it is just all part of the fun of modeling.

A big thank you to all who followed this, and not least to all the great comments, info and stuff that has been left in the posts – thank you all. Now I will have to wait for my preferred photostudio to open (sunshine in the open) before I decide if this will go to the headlines – stay safe folks!

    Fantastic result, Erik @airbum.
Those details are really a great addition to this already superb build.
    Also the camouflage looks great.
Thanks for sharing all your achievements, I learned a lot from them.
I hope to be able to apply your technique and get the same results from that.

    Erik, @airbum
I echo the comments stated above. The trick with the burnishing fluid is a good one. I will remember that in the future. Your Italian 109 looks fantastic, and it has been a lot of fun watching it progress. I'm hoping you get your request for a sunny day soon, so we can all see this beauty in the headlines section.

Erik @ airbum you know I’m a big fan of your skills to reproduce warning light lenses and this one is no exception in that matter. Now add a clean, sharp build and it’s a great 109!

And I snapped a few pictures for the headlines section

Thanks for all the comments and feedback to all. It was great to have you along for the duration.
