Eduard's P-51D, from the "aces" Profipack kit, 82102, which has Meyer's "Petie 3rd," Glenn Eagleston's "Eagle", Pierce McKennon's "Ridge Runner III," John Landers' "big Beautiful Doll," John Voll's "American Beauty," and James Tapp's "Margaret IV".
"Petie 3rd" is the least-known. There is only one photo of it, which was only found when Punchy Powell was asked to go through the personal effects of Meyer's crew chief and found it in the late 80s. While "Petie 2nd" is well-known because of so many photos of it, "Petie 3rd" is actually the important one - Meyer scored no victories while he had "Petie 2nd." He took "Petie 3rd" when he moved up to Deputy Group Commander in November 1944, and between November 27 and January 1, 1945, scored 11.5 of his 24 victories. This is the airplane he fought "the Battle of Asch" in on New Year's Day 1945 when Operation Bodenplatte happened. 7 days later he was out of the war after getting a broken leg in a car accident.
Eduard to their credit decided to do the important but lesser-known "Petie" in this aces' collection.
What's to be said about it - it's an Eduard P-51D - the best P-51s in 1/48.
Photos here of the model completed, along with the only shot ever taken of Petie 3rd. Thanks to my friend Tom Ivie for the photo.
